July 9, 2005 — A few days ago, I received an all-users e-mail from a colleague asking me to show my support for the troops in Iraq by wearing red on Fridays. The message was couched in highly patriotic terms, with the implication that if I didn’t wear red on Fridays, I didn’t support the troops and was unpatriotic. This crystallized a problem I’ve been wrestling with for some time now-how to show my outrage at this miserable war while still supporting the troops.
I need to jump back in (…)

Rhetoric vs. Reality in London
9 July 2005I’ve had the pleasure of visiting London on several occasions. I’ve ridden the subways and walked the streets where Thursday’s awful terrorist attacks occurred. I have nothing but sympathy for the innocent people who were slaughtered, and nothing but contempt for the perpetrators of these crimes. According to pro-war bloggers like Jeff Jarvis, however, people like me belong to the "bomb-us-please crowd."
This sort of dishonest rhetoric, sprinkled with name-calling, seems to be the best (…) -
Now is the time for impeachment hearings. The tyranny must be stopped.
9 July 2005After the 2000 election I rationalized that Republicans were just dumb ideologues, blinded by religious intolerance.
But recently, with their increasingly successful attacks on public radio, universities, Social Security, the judiciary, environmentalists and any dissenting voice, I can only conclude that the Republican power-brokers know exactly what they are doing and are carrying out their clever plan in a very organized way. It is McCarthyism redux.
Democrats are accused of not having (…) -
Bring Bush in line
9 July 2005Two years ago George W. Bush, standing under a "Mission Accomplished" banner aboard the aircraft carrier, the USS Lincoln, proclaimed the end of major combat operations in Iraq. Strange isn’t it that two years later June 23, 2005, Bush when questioned about troop withdrawal from Iraq stated: "Whenever our mission is accomplished." Just what is Bush’s mission in Iraq? Is it to drive the price of a barrel of crude oil to $100 or more; to alienate all nations of the world against us; or create (…)

Did the California National Guard spy on protesters?
9 July 2005THE CALIFORNIA National Guard is under investigation—for spying on Californians. According to press reports, National Guard personnel monitored a Mother’s Day rally at the state capitol building sponsored by antiwar groups, which include the families of slain American soldiers.
Guard officials deny the charge, but according to e-mails obtained by the San Jose Mercury News, the unit was tracking the protest under the auspices of California’s “Information Synchronization, Knowledge (…) -
False Flag over London
9 July 2005It was 2001 all over again: a year into his term, Bush and his poll ratings had sunk to historical lows, even further this time under the weight of scandals and rumblings of impeachment. Blair too was hurt badly by the Downing Street memo. Then out of the blue, salvation struck the pair. Yesterday, 7/7, saw the classic false-flag attack hit London, a simple set-up by western secret services to distract from the deepening woes of Bush and Blair, and perhaps to create the pretext for the next (…)

IS BUSH A MANIAC
8 July 2005IS BUSH MANIC?
By Peter Fredson
Rewritten July 8, 2005
Why does Bush swagger, prance, smirk, gesticulate, glad-hand, grin, and act as if he just swallowed a handful of uppers? He does this even though each speech is basically the same as the one before: staying the course, insurgents hate us, our troops are really brave, we mustn’t criticize or troops will get killed, and not setting any exit strategy so as not to give comfort to an enemy. There seems to be no reason for euphoria. (…) -

Support the war? Then enlist
8 July 2005Sign up or Shut up....
There is a clear difference between supporting our troops and supporting President Bush’s illegal war in Iraq.
Supporting the troops means fully funding the VA, which cares for those injured. It means lifting the stop-loss action that forces soldiers to remain in the military against their will.
Supporting the troops means knowing the truth that there never was a link between the 9-11 terrorist attacks and Iraq. It means appointing an independent council to (…)
