’’...I have identified the stages by which this judicial abandonment of the truth standard in favour of judicially-backed political opportunism - the big lie - is the basis for the unconstitutional war and genocide upon which the empire of (…) -

We Poke Along
12 January 2009By David Glenn Cox http://theservantsofpilate.com
In May of 1935, Franklin Roosevelt signed Executive Order 7034 establishing the Works Projects Administration. The WPA replaced the Federal Emergency Relief Agency. You see, they didn’t have any cut-and-dried answers, they were in new territory and kept trying things until they got it right. The WPA only existed for eight years, but over the course of its life it employed a total of 8,500,000 people.

8 December 2008
In recent weeks, numerous media accounts have referred to President-elect Barack Obama’s cabinet selections as a "team of rivals." The reference is to a book of the same name by the historian Doris Kearns Goodwin on Abraham Lincoln’s choices for key cabinet posts after his victory in the 1860 election, when he confronted the secession crisis and then the Civil War. The media comparisons between Lincoln’s and Obama’s cabinets are specious, (…) -
Gaza: Do some see Palestinians as non-humans?
12 January 2009As I sat watching the movie, “A Time to Kill” this past Saturday, which depicts a man on trial for the killing of two white men who beat and raped his daughter played by Samuel L. Jackson, it was the summation where his lawyer played by Matthew McConaughey, I zeroed in on. He told the jury every gory detail of how this little girl was assaulted by asking them to close their eyes and picture each horrific detail in their mind’s eye. At first knowing that this little girl was black could (…)

The aerial war against Gaza launched by Israel just after Christmas, and the ground offensive, with which it rang in the New Year, were shocking in their brutality, but should constitute no surprise, if viewed from the standpoint of long-term Israeli strategic aims. The Israelis have argued that the offensive was launched in response to eight years’ of relentless attacks (…) -

Immanuel Wallerstein: Capitalism’s Demise?
11 January 2009Capitalism’s Demise? Immanuel Wallerstein interviewed by Jae-Jung Suh
The financial crisis sweeping the world has led many to reconsider the neoliberal premises of the U.S. government. Jae-Jung Suh sits down with sociologist and world systems theorist Immanuel Wallerstein to consider the paradigm shift in global thinking on economic policy and the future of capitalism.
