America’s Hidden Role in Hamas’s Rise to Power
9 January 2009America’s Hidden Role in Hamas’s Rise to Power
By Stephen Zunes, AlterNet. Posted January 3, 2009.
No one in the mainstream media or government is willing to acknowledge America’s sordid role interfering in Palestinian politics. Tools
Editor’s note: In the U.S., the claim that the actions of Hamas forced Israel to launch a massive assault on the impoverished population of Gaza is almost universally accepted. But, as scholar Stephen Zunes explains below, the picture of Hamas as an (…) -

8 January 2009ICRC says Israel broke international law in Gaza
By Stephanie Nebehay
GENEVA, Jan 8 (Reuters) - Relief workers found four starving children sitting next to their dead mothers and other corpses in a house in a part of Gaza City bombed by Israeli forces, the International Committee of the Red Cross said on Thursday.
The ICRC accused Israel of delaying ambulance access to the hit area and demanded it grant safe access for Palestinian Red Crescent ambulances to return to evacuate more (…) -
No Victors in the War on Dissent
8 January 2009Among the wars currently being fought by the American government is one in which there can be no winners. Our prior law enforcement experiences warn us that the “war on terrorism” has spawned an internal “war on dissent” in which everyone loses.
Author William John Cox’s law enforcement career spanned 40 years, the early part of which was spent as a Los Angeles police officer and which included direct policing of both the riots and terrorist incidents in that city in the late 60’s to (…) -
Connecting the Dots
8 January 2009By David Glenn Cox http://theservantsofpilate.com
It seems I can’t even watch TV news anymore, it just makes me too angry, the cluelessness of the government. I voted for change, not a slight alteration but for change. I sit here in this tiny berg of Powder Springs and I ask myself, “Why is it that I can see these things and these highly-paid experts and analysts don’t?”
I see an economy coming apart at the seams and the politicians of both parties are talking about it as if it’s some (…) -

War and Natural Gas: The Israeli Invasion and Gaza’s Offshore Gas Fields
8 January 2009by Michel Chossudovsky
The military invasion of the Gaza Strip by Israeli Forces bears a direct relation to the control and ownership of strategic offshore gas reserves.
This is a war of conquest. Discovered in 2000, there are extensive gas reserves off the Gaza coastline.
British Gas (BG Group) and its partner, the Athens based Consolidated Contractors International Company (CCC) owned by Lebanon’s Sabbagh and Koury families, were granted oil and gas exploration rights in a 25 year (…) -
Martial Law, the Financial Bailout and War
8 January 2009Paulson’s Financial Bailout
It is becoming clear that the bailout measures of late 2008 may have consequences at least as grave for an open society as the response to 9/11 in 2001. Many members of Congress felt coerced into voting against their inclinations, and the normal procedures for orderly consideration of a bill were dispensed with.
The excuse for bypassing normal legislative procedures was the existence of an emergency. But one of the most reprehensible features of the (…)
