In June of 1982, when Israel invaded Lebanon with 80,000 soldiers, killing 17,000 Lebanese and Palestinian in a matter of a few weeks, my father, who had known some of the early Zionist leaders, compared the Israelis with the Nazis and suggested I go back and read Deuteronomy. I did and read it again (…) -
When they invade the USA!...Bush says they will!
24 August 2006The other day Bush said "If we give up our efforts in Iraq and pull out before the mission is accomplished, the terrorists will follow us over here!"
We’d sure better heed his erudite and carefully considered advice. I have no doubt that the minute we pull out of Iraq, where we’re doing a bang-up job, the various dead enders, thugs, teenagers, angry fathers and mothers, Saudi fighters, Sunis and Shia will board planes and boats and trains and automobiles, armed to teeth, and head to New (…) -
Untold story of the massacre of Marjayoun leaves blame on both sides of the border
23 August 2006by Robert Fisk
There are few marks on the road where the missiles hit the innocents of Marjayoun. But there are the memories of what happened immediately after the Israeli airstrike on the convoy of 3,000 people after dark on 11 August: a 16-year old Christian girl screaming "I want my Daddy" as her father’s mutilated body lay a few metres away from her; the town mukhtar discovering that his wife, Collette, had been decapitated by one of the Israeli missiles; the Lebanese Red Cross (…) -
Protest paralyzes Mexico’s Oaxaca
23 August 2006Protest paralyzes Mexico’s Oaxaca
AP , OAXACA, MEXICO Wednesday, Aug 23, 2006,
Normally vibrant and thronged with tourists, picturesque Oaxaca City has ground to a virtual halt as protesters armed with pipes, machetes and clubs roam the cobblestone streets — burning buses, seizing media outlets and blocking highways and bus stations.
The three-month-old protest — now almost an insurrection against state Governor Ulises Ruiz — made many in Oaxaca afraid to leave their homes on (…) -
ALTERNATIVES TO THE COLLAPSED WTO DOHA ROUND TALKS
23 August 2006Alternatives To the Collapsed WTO Doha Round Talks - by Stephen Lendman
On July 24, 2006, World Trade Organization (WTO) Director-General Pascal Lamy was forced to halt the five years of negotiating of the so-called Fourth WTO Ministerial Doha Round that began in Doha, Qatar in November, 2001 and ended (for now, at least) in Geneva, Switzerland. The talks had been ongoing to strike a trade deal but broke down because the US, as usual, demanded all take and little give in return expecting (…) -

23 August 2006US threatens Iran sanctions next week
New York (dpa) - While the United Nations and European Union promised to study Iran’s reply, the United States said Tuesday it would begin discussion of economic sanctions if Iran continued to defy a UN Security Council demand to suspend all its uranium conversion activities by August 31.
The European Union in Brussels confirmed Tuesday that it had received Iran’s formal reply to the package of economic incentives offered by Western nations in (…) -

“Ever since the extremist attacks on various American targets on September 11, 2001, an enormous body of literature, mostly theory and supposition, has erupted throughout the world. The real story about this tragedy is far more interesting, and provable, than the great forests of fiction that have grown up around it. There are two parts to this story. There is no point going over the known facts (…) -
All’s wHELL that ends wHELL!
23 August 2006I came away from President Bush’s Press conference feeling invigorated; more alive and more jubilant than ever!
The President told us that we must stay the course in Iraq (and obviously in Afghanistan) for as long as it takes; that our troops won’t be pulled out as long as he’s the Commander in Chief.
I like that tough and courageous approach to peace and democracy in this precarious world. God and man, working in unison, with dedication and generosity to win hearts, minds, and a new (…)
