Seven Questions: Covering Iraq Foreign Policy - Web Exclusive July 5, 2006
FOREIGN POLICY: Are Americans getting an accurate picture of what’s going on in Iraq?
Rod Nordland: It’s a lot worse over here [in Iraq] than is reported. The administration does a great job of managing the news. Just an example: There was a press conference here about [Abu Musab al] Zarqawi’s death, and somebody asked what role [U.S.] Special Forces played in finding Zarqawi. [The official] either denied any role (…)

The Terrorism Index
6 July 2006The Terrorism Index By FOREIGN POLICY & The Center For American Progress July/August 2006
Is the United States winning the war on terror? Not according to more than 100 of America’s top foreign-policy hands. They see a national security apparatus in disrepair and a government that is failing to protect the public from the next attack. Following the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, Americans understandably rallied around the flag. Having just suffered the deadliest attack ever on (…) -
Even Bush’s Crap Is Classified Top Secret
6 July 2006Even Bush’s Crap Is Classified Top Secret Wayne Madsen Report
July 4, 2006 — Even Bush’s crap is classified top secret. According to our Austrian sources, Austrian newspapers are currently abuzz with special security details of George W. Bush’s recent trip to Vienna. Although the heavy-handed Gestapo-like security measures meted out to Viennese home owners, business proprietors, and pedestrians by US Secret Service agents and local police before and during Bush’s visit received widespread (…) -
What Secret?
6 July 2006What Secret? By Larry C Johnson Wednesday, 05 July 2006 at 13:40 (Cross Posted at RawStory.com)
If you still labor under the fantasy that the New York Times, the Los Angeles Times, and the Wall Street Journal divulged "classified information" that put U.S. lives at risk or hampered our ability to track terrorist financial assets, you are willfully ignorant or have been living in a sensory isolation tank. [Word to Congressman Peter King—pull your fat, Irish Republican Army-supporting head (…) -
Super Bush
6 July 2006Super Bush Posted By The Olive Ream at 9:56 AM Saturday, June 24, 2006
Super Bush is a non-fictional superhero, in the Neocomic Universe, created by the members of the PNAC, he has become the world’s most infamous, enduring yet comical superheroes.
Rather unlike Phoenix rising from the ashes, Super Bush emerged more like a putrid stench emerging from the sewers of New York after the September 11th attack on the World Trade Center. Although believed to be originally from another planet, (…) -
Failures Of Military Might
6 July 2006Failures Of Military Might By Michael Harris June 30, 2006
Kill the mike and pass the ammunition: Might is right, again.
Israel’s invasion of the Palestinian territory, its warplane buzzing of the summer home of Syria’s president, and its bombing of the already decrepit infrastructure of Gaza, establish a new low in the brass-knuckle diplomacy invented by George W. Bush.
It would be humanitarian tragedy enough at the best of times. But coming as it does at the moment when Hamas and (…) -
bin Laden? Bush: I don’t think about him much...and now, neither does the CIA
6 July 2006I think we all know that Bush believed that bin Laden was responsible for 9/11. At least that’s what he kept saying for months on end back in 2002-3. Then the CIA revealed a tape by bin Laden which they declared legitimate, showing bin Laden in a group, talking about the success of the 9/11 attack (not actually admitting it). Bush was always saying "We’ll run him down, smoke him out, and bring him to justice"..and then "Wanted...dead or alive".
Well, as you all know by now the CIA just (…) -
Join Cindy Sheehan at Camp Casey 2 in Washington DC
6 July 2006Cindy Sheehan is on a hunger strike at the mall in Washington DC and she needs company!
Look at this beautiful park. Doesn’t this look like the perfect place for an extended protest?
"I often get told that I should "love America, or leave it." This is ridiculous logic and empty rhetoric. I love the country that I was born in and I love Americans. I am an American and so are my children. Casey was born and died a fine American who was abused by the same leaders that are abusing the (…) -
I Am Angry
6 July 2006I Am Angry By Susan Fassanella July 5, 2006
Dear Lew, the Honorable Ron Paul’s piece on why Americans are angry really stirred me to respond. Mr. Paul’s piece speaks about many issues facing Americans today.
I am a 51-year-old woman. I have been married to the same man since 1976. I am the secretary/office manager for a small legal firm in the D.C. suburbs. My husband manages a wine and spirits store. I have two sons, aged 26 and 22. After realizing it wasn’t possible to support (…) -
Iraq Considers Arming Insurgents
6 July 2006Iraq Considers Arming Insurgents By Rick Jervis, USA TODAY Updated 7/4/2006 11:52 PM ET
BAGHDAD - Iraq’s government is studying a request from some local insurgent leaders to supply them with weapons so they can turn on the heavily armed foreign fighters who were once their allies, according to two Iraqi lawmakers. Leaders claiming to represent about 11 insurgent groups asked for weapons to fight foreign al-Qaeda elements in Iraq, said Haider al-Ibadi, a Shiite lawmaker and member of Prime (…)
