*(from Wikipedia) : Phil OCHS 19 décembre 1940 - 9 avril 1976) était un auteur-compositeur-interprète américain de musique folk particulièrement actif durant les années 60.

Il est né dans la ville d’El Paso au Texas [1], dans une famille de classe moyenne. Il étudia le journalisme à l’Ohio State University, études qu’il abandonna la dernière année pour aller s’installer à New York. Il commença alors à composer plusieurs chansons ayant pour thèmes principaux la guerre, les droits civiques et la lutte des classes. Il se décrivait lui-même comme un « journaliste chantant » (singing journalist). On sait notamment qu’un autre grand nom de la musique folk , Bob Dylan, noua un grand lien d’amitié avec Phil Ochs.

Il fut très engagé contre la guerre du Viêt Nam. Il organisa plusieurs concerts contre le président Richard Nixon. Alcoolique, dépressif et déçu de son manque flagrant de succès commercial, il se donna la mort par pendaison le 9 avril 1976.
