This Saturday 3 March, the Stop the War Coalition is holding its most important
conference for years. The hysteria over Iran is unmistakably reminiscent of the
build up to war on Iraq less than ten years ago. We are witnessing the same WMD
accusations, demonisation of a regime, successive weapons inspections,
regularly tightening sanctions, and increasingly open calls for an attack.

Recently Washington’s rhetoric has hardened, with US Defence Secretary Leon
Panetta stating bluntly that an Israeli strike on Iran is likely in the next
few months. With this level of threat on Iran, and growing pressure for Western
intervention in Syria, the anti-war movement clearly needs to mobilise on a big
scale.

As well as Iran, other issues to be discussed will include: the threat of
Western intervention in Syria, the sharpening crisis in Afghanistan and
planning our future campaigns.

Among those introducing the debates are Tony Benn, Afghan writer Mitra Qayoom,
Iranian academic Abbas Edalat, Joan Humphries, who lost her grandson in
Afghanistan, Stop the War convener Lindsey German, Iraqi anti war activist Sami
Ramadani and George Galloway.

Activists will be travelling to the conference from across the country to lay
plans for this new phase of anti-war campaigning. The conference is open to
delegates from Stop the War groups and affiliated organisations and all members
of Stop the War. If you are not a Stop the War member and wish to attend the
conference, you can join on the door.

Entrance is £5/£3 concessions. You can pre-book by email at
office KaS stopwar.org.uk or by phone: 020 7561 9311
