Thanks to a powerful indigenous movement from Colombia to Bolivia, US free-trade policies are in tatters
by Naomi Klein
When Manuel Rozental got home one night last month, friends told him two strange men had been asking questions about him. In this close-knit indigenous community in south-west Colombia, ringed by soldiers, rightwing paramilitaries and leftwing guerrillas, strangers asking questions is never a good thing.
The Association of Indigenous Councils of Northern Cauca, which (…)

So what are uniforms? Why do we all dress a certain way or color or pattern combination?
It is a visual mesage. Just like the messages the corporation send when you look into a slum neighborhood, drive by two 12 year old girls prostituting themselves for drug money Thursday, a school night, or like the message that you get when you watch TV and see a person talking about ALL the FEAR and what HIS (…) -

People SAY they want Democracy - To Live in a Greater State of Free Expression. For this is the basis of democracy and that is to allow expression to be open and sharable, thus promoting a greater level of interaction and communication, hopefully with the outcome of ending up in a better place for all then when we started.
But even today we do not even have a shade of TRUE democracy anywhere for we were ALL raised and brought up in Oligarchic (…) -

“Those who scare peace-loving people with phantoms of lost liberty, my message is this: Your tactics only aid the terrorists for they erode our national unity and diminish our resolve. They give ammunition to America’s enemies and pause to America’s friends” Former Attorney General, John Ashcroft

Vermont Passes Resolution to Secede from the USA

10 commentsby GREG SZYMANSKI
An historic Vermont meeting in the state capital has passed a resolution to secede from the United States. Members of a peaceful freedom-fighting group want no part of neo-cons running the imperialistic U.S. government. The plan to secede from the U.S. is gaining momentum in the fiercely independent Green Mountain state.
The neo-con band of criminals running Washington, trampling on civil rights at home and invading countries at will overseas, has led a large group of (…) -

Kevin Benderman sits in jail. An injustice. He did not want to go. He did not take his stand, break a law and dare the courts to put him in jail with a stiff sentence. Kevin Benderman put his principles on the line and dared to trust that his rights would be respected as the constitution he fought to defend demands.
Kevin Benderman did everything he could to demonstrate to the military, and to the world, that he did not want to go to jail, by consistently (…) -

Decisions on the programme
Following the main debate and numerous discussions on the political and social situation, the Istanbul EPA came to an agreement on several points in order to put together the programme:
Agreement on general objectives:
1. Create an alternative to the European neo-liberal programme and anti-social policies.
2. Raise the profile and awareness of these alternatives as well as concrete responses to them.
3. Encourage the convergence (…) -
Cindy Sheehan for President...or Senate
1 November 2005 par (Open-Publishing)
The Anti-War Left Seeks a Challenger for Hillary Clinton by Kristen Lombardi Cindy Sheehan, a/k/a the "peace mom," probably never intended to sound like a candidate, but she did. Sheehan, the activist who became the face of anti-war sentiment after camping outside President Bush’s ranch in Crawford, Texas, last summer, had just mounted the podium at the Brooklyn Peace Fair on October 22. And already she was getting political.
"Maybe later we’ll talk about your senators," she said, (…) -
Reversing the Pistons of Empire: One America for Peace

Whip lashed by serial collisions of imperial power, dissident movements in the USA brace for the next shocking thing. We have been hijacked into a crashing invasion of Iraq, slammed around by evasive maneuvers in New Orleans, and now along the borderlands of the Southwest USA, signs warn that a highway of accommodation is about to end, dumping us head-on into deserts of aggression upon Latin American peoples.
Into each new crisis, empire roars forward, pumping high octane (…) -
THE GAME IS NOT LIFE

It’s been two and a half years. There are almost 2000 soldiers deaths officially accounted for. How many family members does that come to? Is there a number?
The war has cost billions. Where did it all go? Is there an accurate number?
There are thousands of Iraqi causalties. Does anyone know their names? Has anyone counted?
In the wars before, history tells of the great loss of life the monetary cost. Are there numbers we can trust?
Hundreds of thousands (…)
