Congressman Ron Paul has accused the Bush administration of attempting to set in motion a militarized police state in America by enacting gun confiscation martial law provisions in the event of an avian flu pandemic. Paul also slammed as delusional and dangerous plans to invade Iran, Syria, North Korea and China.
Ron Paul represents the 14th Congressional district of Texas. He also serves on the House of Representatives Financial Services Committee, and the International Relations committee.
Paul appeared on the Alex Jones show yesterday and raised some interesting points about the possibility of imminent indictments of top Bush administration figures.
"I think there’s a lot more excitement coming and it’s not going to be good for the Republicans," stated Paul.
"The things that I hear have to do with Karl Rove and Abramoff and that’s much much worse than anybody would believe and it involves DeLay as well."
"And that type of an indictment will be much more serious than the indictment of shifting campaign funds around.....there’s some political infighting which could make that really interesting."
On the subject of the police state, Paul stated,
"If we don’t change our ways we will go the way of Rome and I see that as rather sad.....the worst things happen when you get the so-called Republican conservatives in charge from Nixon on down, big government flourishes under Republicans."
"It’s really hard to believe it’s happening right in front of us. Whether it’s the torture or the process of denying habeas corpus to an American citizen."
"I think the arrogance of power that they have where they themselves are like Communists....in the sense that they decide what is right. The Communist Party said that they decided what was right or wrong, it wasn’t a higher source."
Paul responded to President Bush’s announcement last week that he would order the use of military assets to police America in the event of an avian flu outbreak.
"To me it’s so strange that the President can make these proposals and it’s even plausible. When he talks about martial law dealing with some epidemic that might come later on and having forced quarantines, doing away with Posse Comitatus in order to deal with natural disasters, and hardly anybody says anything. People must be scared to death."
Paul, himself a medical doctor, agreed that the bird flu threat was empty fearmongering.
"I believe it is the President hyping this and Rumsfeld, but it has to be in combination with the people being fearful enough that they will accept the man on the white horse. My first reaction going from my political and medical background is that it’s way overly hyped and to think that they have gone this far with it, without a single case in the whole country and they’re willing to change the law and turn it into a military state? That is unbelievable! They’re determined to have martial law."

Paul opined that the martial law provisions now being promoted by the Bush administration were a direct response to people’s unwillingness to relinquish their firearms, as was seen in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina.
"I think they’re concerned about the remnant, the remnant of those individuals who don’t buy into stuff and think that they should take care of themselves on their own, that they should have their own guns and their own provisions and they don’t want to depend on the government at all and I think that is a threat to those who want to hold power. They don’t want any resistance to their authoritarian rule."
Paul opined that the government was on a delusional power trip that threatened the country.
"These guys are ready to start a war with Iran, Syria, North Korea or China. They can’t possibly do that, it’s so insane, we don’t have the money, we don’t have the troops, we probably don’t even have the ammunition."
"But, if they are truly delusional they just might do something that’s totally irrational."
Paul expressed his hope that finally some conservatives are waking up to the fact that the Bush administration is a trojan horse, especially after arch-liberal Harriet Miers was chosen by Bush to supposedly move the Supreme Court to the right, even though her record is atrocious and she has been involved in the past covering up for the Bush crime family’s activities.

What a fucking joke. When the military was in New Orleans last month and the government declared a state of emergency, every person carrying a gun had their gun seized and they were arrested....the NRA was completely silent about this as was fucking phony Mr. Paul....he must be up for re-election and this is his BIG nothing of an election issue designed for the stupid red necks who believe they have a "right" to bear arms, which is a total myth as already proven just last month in New Orleans. Someone needs to wake this stupid fucker up and give him the news that the government is ALREADY confiscating weapons and arresting people who own them any time they want to. What a dumb asshole that he doesn’t already know this....I guess he is just another unintelligent and uneducated politician wanting some free publicity another Bush....and where is the NRA? I guess their republican heros need them to remain silent about the guns being confiscated and the owners being arrested only one month ago.....what a bag of bullshit these phony gun lovers who are just little fairy whimps when their widdie pop guns get taken away from them like candy from babies. These people are so stupid they are disgusting.

Congressman Paul did in fact mention weapons being taken away, and people being reluctant to let it happen! Maybe you should read the article again?

To 72.19: It is you, sir, who deserves to be called an idiot. Did you read this article at all? Mr. Paul, one of a handful of Congressmen that has any testicles left, has articulated his position clearly: the Federal Government is prepared to take away the few rights we have left as citizens in the very near future. I find people like you disgusting, people who take more time in typing piffle and writing hate-filled sentences than they do in listening to others or reading the viewpoints of others.
Bellaciao needs to do better job in filtering out bozos like yourself who don’t contribute in any way to a productive discussion of the issues. People like 72.19 don’t contribute anything at all, unless discord and hate is what they are after.
I don’t see why someone who’s every sentence is littered with profanity [abusive language which by the way no longer shocks anyone of real intelligence and experience] should be allowed to post a comment on any website or blog that wishes to have only honest & constructive dialogue with its readers.
Unless of course, Bellaciao does not care about the quality of the comments posted to its site. If that’s the case, they are plenty of other worthwhile sites, such as ’Artic Beacon’, ’Axis of Logic’ or ’Common Dreams’ where the discerning reader can get at the truth behind today’s issues and need not worry about waddling through the verbal sewage spewed by so many lobotomites, like 72.19, who seem to have roosted here.
Bellaciao has become nothing more than a leftist version of ’MoonBat Central’, a fascist blog-site that is also infested with hate-filled minds whose apparent emotional growth was arrested at age 12.

Having read the article again, I see no mention of the fact that people’s guns were forcably taken from them and that they were arrested....it says that people were "reluctant to hand over their weapons" making sure to gloss over the fact that not only were the weapons taken away but these people were ARRESTED.....he is making some vague reference as though it was all nicey nice and voluntary and that the flu epidemic is a future event that may bring about this confiscation and arrest thing....maybe you need to read it again......I see nothing about forcable seizure and arrest........as I said before some "fucking shit issue" for a "politician to get some publicity" never having been brought up before congress by same fucking politician who "needs an issue more than he needs to do his job".

Well said, Congressman! Finally, people are beginning to speak out in public about their concerns. Of course the government want everyone to give up their weapons. If people have weapons, they might start thinking about revolting against the powers that be! BushCo want to create a totalitarian state, nothing more, with themselves and their cronies at the helm. Look out for an "outbreak" of avian flu, which will nothing more than a fake operation to start the next step into facism.

You know what happens when we give up our guns, don’t you? We get the Josie Wales treatment.

Please stop shouting, it makes your comments difficult to read. People will simply skip over them. Profanity does not endear you to them, either.

"Shouting it from the rooftops" is pretty understandable in this case... the case of democracy being dismantled and America being crushed by a fascist regime, that is. Not a small thing. Too many Americans, including those in Congress, are not thinking or speaking for themselves and are letting this pseudo-administration and their corporate buddies running mainstream media make everyone deaf, dumb, blind and mute. At least those who are exercising their God-given right to righteous indignation can and will more likely direct what can be VERY productive anger and rage toward defending and protecting what’s left of our civil rights, our democracy and our very lives.
But don’t listen to me, go to the impeachment petition and READ the many indignant and angry voices from across the U.S. (http://elandslide.org/elandslide/petition.cfm?campaign=impeach), by the thousands who are signing this petition and passing it on. It’s growing rapidly. Go to the link that says "50 most recent comments", which changes everyday because so many people are signing. Personally, I’ve been copying and pasting these comments into emails and sending them onto members of Congress, in case they become interested in growing a backbone and doing their jobs of listening to the American People they are supposed to be serving. I’m sure the person who was "shouting" will be taking action like this and perhaps much more. Just my guess...
Also check out www.votetoimpeach.org — well over 1/2 million signed and still counting. Not that impeachment will happen, but action and pressure from US, the American Public, is required today — we need to take back our country. Even from afar — I’m an American living in Italy. Ciao!

God Bless Ron Paul, you are a rare politician. Your record is righteous and it
takes courage to walk your "road". To the faithfull here, we need to arm ourselves and speak out against the unconstitutional behavior of the current big government "axis of evil". These are scary times but then when in history has it ever been peacefull. Live free or die, I don’t look forward to the coming confrontation. Zorro
