UN team warns of hard landing for dollar
By Harvey Morris in New York Published: December 1 2008 08:48
The current strength of the dollar is temporary and the US currency risks a hard landing in 2009, according to a team of United Nations economists who foresaw a year ago that a US downturn would bring the global economy to a near standstill.
In their annual report on the world economy published on Monday, the economists said the dollar’s sharp rebound this autumn had been driven (…)

Call for a new 9/11 commission headed by David Ray Griffin
2 December 2008 par (Open-Publishing)
The interregnum should be used to put pressure on Obama to do what we want him to: investigate 9/11 properly. If we fail to do this it will be the final proof that the leading figures in our "truth movement" are not on our side at all, but only shills.
Therefore I propose something that no one can disagree with: a new 9/11 Truth Commission headed by David Ray Griffin.
Nothing more or else, because anything more or less would give too many people too many things to argue about and (…) -

Obama to be next neocon US president?
Global Research, December 1, 2008 Press TV
The next US government might not be able to keep its promise on ’Change’ and might turn into a war-oriented administration, a prominent historian says.
President-elect Barack Obama, who inspired Americans during his presidential campaign, defeated his Republican rival John McCain thanks to the new slogans in a historic election last month.
During his transition time, Obama has been trying to name his (…) -

When the Big Three CEOs recently descended on Washington in their fancy corporate jets with inflated egos and high hopes for a juicy piece of the government’s $8.6 trillion corporate welfare pie, they were sent home hungry to do their homework and to write an essay about how they plan to spend bailout funds.
Undoubtedly, the executives will travel business class when they come back this week; they will each have a business plan in hand, and Congress will give them $25 billion of taxpayer (…) -

Balzac’s maxim that “behind every great fortune lies a great crime” may yet prove a fitting epitaph for American capitalism. A recent survey by the Wall Street Journal reveals that CEOs at major US financial and real estate firms converted tens of millions of dollars of overvalued stock into cash prior to the eruption of the current financial crisis, even as (…) -

Shopping malls are running on empty

Life Plaza Center in San Gabriel used to teem with diners heading to Green Village, a Chinese restaurant in the middle of the horseshoe-shaped mall on Valley Boulevard.
But after the eatery closed five months ago, the 7,500- square-foot space remained vacant. With no tenants stepping forward and fewer customers clogging the parking lot, the plaza is quiet, with a curiously dark core.
It’s a (…) -

[On November 22, 2008, I posted the original report about this event at BellaCiao.]
A peculiar email from Paul Bell, a dean at the University of Oklahoma, was sent on Friday, November 21, 2008. Since that time I have obtained verification of it from the OU Open Records Office. It is now scanned and online at this public Facebook album:
The recipients were department chairmen and directors on the Norman campus. I first (…) -

Things are getting crazier by the day. On Tuesday, Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson announced that the Fed would commit another $800 billion to fight the financial crisis which has spread to the broader economy and is causing sharp declines in consumer spending. The Fed plans to buy $600 billion of mortgage-backed securities (MBS) from Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac and another (…) -

I enlisted in the military in January of 2004 and worked my way up in rank from (…)
