Have you heard the news? Scientists have found a planet that can support life. Parts of its atmosphere are too hot for year-round habitation, its gases impede breathing and surface conditions are sometimes fatal. But by constructing a network of sealed facilities, tunnels and vehicles, humans could survive on this planet for decades, and perhaps even centuries.
The planet is called Earth.
If you’ve seen this planet lately, you know what’s going on: record-shattering (…)

The Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.)’s publishing arm has released a book that says President Bush organized New York’s Sept. 11 attacks.
The decision by the 160-year-old Westminster John Knox Press, the trade and academic publishing imprint of the Presbyterian Publishing Corp., to attribute the attacks on the World Trade Center brings into the U.S. religious mainstream a conspiracy theory long (…) -

Neocons’ Middle East Scheme Is Backfiring
10 August 2006 par (Open-Publishing)
“Do you represent Israel before you represent America?” - U.S. Senate Candidate Kevin Zeese’s query to Rep. Ben Cardin (1)
The Neocons’ scheme to destabilize the Middle East, aka “The Clean Break Document,” and to create a “safer Israel” is backfiring. (2) Instead, residents of Haifa, Israel, are running for cover from the rocket attacks of Hezbollah. Hey, that wasn’t in the plan! The Arabs aren’t suppose to fight back. They are only suppose to serve as target practice for the Israeli (…) -
Throw These Bums Out of Office

9 commentsDemocratic voters of Connecticut you’ve restored a sense of faith - not in the political system (which would almost be impossible) - but in the American electorate. Not completely. There were, after all, 48% of you who stuck with Lieberman and those who sat home yesterday. It’s barely reason for ethusiasm, but it does provide a light at the end of the tunnel.
Could it be that American voters are actually following foreign affairs closely enough to realize how much blood, money and time has (…) -
Civilian Killings Went Unpunished. Declassified papers show U.S. atrocities went far beyond My Lai

The men of B Company were in a dangerous state of mind. They had lost five men in a firefight the day before. The morning of Feb. 8, 1968, brought unwelcome orders to resume their sweep of the countryside, a green patchwork of rice paddies along Vietnam’s central coast.
They met no resistance as they entered a nondescript settlement in Quang Nam province. So Jamie Henry, a 20-year-old medic, set his rifle down in a hut, unfastened (…) -
The Iraq War Enablers

So there was Hillary Rodham Clinton grandstanding for the television cameras last week, giving Donald Rumsfeld a carefully scripted chewing out for his role in the Bush administration’s lunatic war in Iraq.
Casual viewers could have been forgiven for not realizing that Senator Clinton has long been a supporter of this war, and that even now, with the number of pointless American deaths moving toward 2,600, her primary goal apparently is not to find an end game, but to (…) -
George Bush needs YOUR help!
9 August 2006 par (Open-Publishing)
2 commentsEveryone needs help at one time or another, perhaps the powerful most of all. George W. Bush has come to the inevitable conclusion that he needs advice; not just from a political staffer or his whacko VP, but from what Lincoln called "The Common Man"...that would be us.
There are a host of areas where I think George could really use some meaningful advice. One is about nation building. GW said in his 2000 campaign that he didn’t approve of nation building and would avoid it. Is it too late (…) -
