I was just reading about Bee County Texas the other day. It seems the good folks there have finally had enough of the high prices they have been paying for gasoline. They are boycotting Exxon until the price for regular unleaded comes back down to $1.30. The idea is to not buy any gasoline at any Exxon or Mobile stations while supporting the stores with inside business so that the employees will still have a job. The effort they desire to put forward is the best of intentions but is quite (…)

Slapping the Face of Truth...a poem about Bush
1 May 2006 par (Open-Publishing)
Oh, I have slapped the face of truth, prevaricated and deceived like many ancient kings...
Upward I’ve climbed with help from Karl Rove and neocons, and done a hundred things the law does not allow.
Wheeled and dealed and given cushy contracts too,
High perhaps on drugs or booze, without a care,
I’ve lied my foolish head off, expanded ego craftily with hot air.
True, true, my diplomatic moves are few.
I’ve told a million tales with easy grace, and devastated language without a single (…) -
An Easy Viable Way of Taking the Money Out of the Election Process
1 May 2006 par (Open-Publishing)
2 commentsWell after seeing so many people saying what we can do about all the money spent to be elected, I sat and thought for a few minutes, and came up with this, when any candidate takes office he accepts an oath of office. Why not make each candidate when applying for office, fill out a questionnaire, of their interpretation of the constitution and bill of rights and all subsequent amendments. Sign a form stating that the first time a decision is made by me that deviates from my interpretation, (…)

It’s the perfect day for a march. Sunny, crisp, clear, spring-like. The sort of day that just gives you hope for no reason at all, though my own hopes are not high for New York’s latest antiwar demonstration. I haven’t received a single email about it. Many people I know hadn’t realized it was happening. I fear the outreach has been minimal (…) -
U.S.: More Than 600 Implicated in Detainee Abuse
1 May 2006 par (Open-Publishing)
2 commentsTwo years ago, revelations about the abuse of detainees in U.S. custody at Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq shocked people across the world. In response, U.S. government officials condemned the conduct as illegal and assured the world that perpetrators would be held accountable.
Two years later, it has become clear that the problem of torture and other abuse by U.S. personnel abroad was far more pervasive than the Abu Ghraib photos revealed-extending to numerous U.S. detention facilities in (…) -
KATRINA : Don’t come back to New Orleans unless you intend to join the fight for justice!’

Eight months after Katrina: ’Don’t come back to New Orleans unless you intend to join the fight for justice!’
by Bill Quigley Six weeks after Katrina, public housing tenants were evicted from several developments, using storm damage as a pretext. Driving out residents from livable homes made HUD Secretary Alphonso Jackson’s prediction of a "whiter New Orleans" a self-fulfilling prophecy. Photo: forestparkresist@gmail.com

Bush’s Hypocrisy: Cuban Terrorists by Robert Parry

http://www.consortiumnews.com/2006/042606.html April 26, 2006
Like an aging rock star singing a beloved oldie, George W. Bush can count on cheers whenever he delivers a favorite line from the Bush Doctrine enunciated after the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks: Any country that harbors a terrorist is equally guilty as the terrorist.
Bush got a round of applause at an Indianapolis speech on March 24, 2006, when he declared “one of the lessons learned after September the 11th is that we must (…) -
A day without all-stars?

MAY DAY 2006 is being called the "Great American Boycott" or "A Day Without Latinos."
Across the country, Latinos and their allies say they will neither work nor shop Monday to protest what they consider anti-immigrant legislation before Congress.
Although many industries and work sites may be affected, one multibillion-dollar enterprise (…) -
Worker-to-Worker Solidarity Committee to AFL-CIO: Cut All Ties with NED
1 May 2006 par (Open-Publishing)
by Kim Scipes
On March 6, over 50 union members from several unions and activist allies picketed the headquarters of the AFL-CIO in Washington, DC., to demand that the AFL-CIO’s Solidarity Center immediately break off all ties with the misnamed National Endowment for Democracy (NED).
The NED is a leading component of the US Government’s efforts to maintain the US Empire, and the Solidarity Center is one of the NED’s four "core institutes," along with the international wings of the (…) -
