A Washington press corps that stood idly by while Bush and Cheney plundered the country, wrecked the environment, spied on Americans without a warrant, tortured civilians and lied the country into a war that will only get worse, woke up one morning and collectively decided: "Let’s all play Get Cynthia!"
Let’s get her for being too outspoken, bringing up the wrong issue at the wrong time, failing to get with the program, becoming a distraction, leaving House Majority Leader (…)

Would President Bush go to war to stop Tehran from getting the bomb?
The Bush Administration, while publicly advocating diplomacy in order to stop Iran from pursuing a nuclear weapon, has increased clandestine activities inside Iran and intensified planning for a possible major air attack. Current and former American military and intelligence officials said that Air Force planning groups are drawing up lists of targets, and teams of American combat troops have been (…) -

Two senior military officers are known to have challenged Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld on the planning of the Iraq war. Army General Eric Shinseki publicly dissented and found himself marginalized. Marine Lieut. General Greg Newbold, the Pentagon’s top operations officer, voiced his objections internally and then retired, in part out of opposition to the war. Here, for the first time, Newbold goes public with a full-throated critique:

SAS soldier quits Army in disgust at ’illegal’ U.S. tactics in Iraq By Sean Rayment, Defence Correspondent (Filed: 12/03/2006)
An SAS soldier has refused to fight in Iraq and has left the Army over the "illegal" tactics of United States troops and the policies of coalition forces.
After three months in Baghdad, Ben Griffin told his commander that he was no longer prepared to fight alongside American forces.
Ben Griffin told commanders that he thought the Iraq war was illegal

The war WITHOUT Rumsfeld?

3 commentsEveryone wants Rummy to go and I fully support that. His arrogance and faulty planning have cost the US and Iraq many problems that might have been ameliorated had recommended better planning been heeded and implemented.
But we are where we are. Of course we were wrong to begin with, and have no business invading and "liberating" a country which proposed no real threat to us. The question now is, would we have had more success if we had gone in with twice the troop force initially? and (…) -

JF: The towers were loaded with asbestos...
GN: That’s why so many thousands of people are still getting sick.
JF: They’re dying from it George, they’re dying from it. The EPA even lied to the New Yorkers. This is so criminal its unbelieveable. They told them that it was not toxic dust when in fact the opposite was the case- this is a shock! And that the New York Times should ignore all of (…) -

A Very Dispiriting Day
It was a tad hectic yesterday, what with the House Telecom Subcommittee voting to turn the Internet over to the telephone and cable companies and all.
The vote on the Subcommittee to defeat an amendment setting out a new, strong Net Neutrality policy was 23-8, with the Net losing badly. Some of the reporting about the vote characterized it as a partisan battle. Not so. The fact is, the Democrats deserted the Net Neutrality cause.
The eight “yes” votes were seven (…) -

RIGHTS FOR ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS IN THE US

4 commentsMarching in the streets, making demands, the only rights I see that ILLEGAL immigrants might have in the U.S. are these:
You have the right to remain silent and refuse to answer questions. Do you understand?
Anything you do say may be used against you in a court of law. Do you understand?
You have the right to consult an attorney before speaking to the police and to have an attorney present during questioning now or in the future. Do you understand?
If you cannot afford an attorney, (…) -

The Democrats are going to gain 5-10 seats in the US House of Representatives in the forthcoming mid-terms elections...... The GOP will continue control over the lower House despite the enourmous unpopularity of their party leader , the worst president in US history - bar none............ Why ? The effort to recruit and finance Democratic candidates is being run by a volunteer of the Israeli Defence forces during the first Persian Gulf War...... That IDF man , Rep. Rahm Emanuel of (…)
