The Arsenal of Kleptocracy
25 January 2010 par (Open-Publishing)
By David Glenn Cox
History moves in fits and starts, traveling stealthily until suddenly it erupts like a volcano and something new is born. Like the pangs of birth, we can see it coming and even more we can feel its presence. After the Supreme Court ruling in the case of Bush vs. Gore, I thought that never in my life I would ever live to see a worse decision than the Supreme Court’s ruling yesterday.
The way in which the media has handled the news of this latest decision is case in (…) -

THANK YOU MASSACHUSETTS FOR KILLING ME
22 January 2010 par (Open-Publishing)
1 comment“In every American community you have varying shades of political opinion. One of the shadiest of these is the liberals. An outspoken group on many subjects, ten degrees to the left of center in good times [and] ten degrees to the right of center if it affects them personally.”
These were the words the late folk singer Phil Ochs used in 1966 to introduce his sardonic song, Love Me, I’m A Liberal, a humorous and politically astute critique of individuals who profess to believe in (…) -
If I Met Poppy in a Pizza Parlor
22 January 2010 par (Open-Publishing)
(For links see here.)
When I heard about the guy that ran into "Poppy" (George H.W.) Bush in a pizza place in Houston, cussed him out and posted a video about it on YouTube, of course I had to watch it. (Click here fast; it seems to be disappearing.) The names turned out to be "murderous, Zionist piece of s*," without the asterisk.
Mulling this over carefully, especially having just finished Russ Baker’s exhaustive (and exhausting) Family of Secrets, I wouldn’t call the man a Zionist. I (…) -
My Country ’tis of thee—Corporatocracy! Of Thee I Sing
22 January 2010 par (Open-Publishing)
4 commentsI know, I know. I’ve seen the blogosphere screeching about the Death of Democracy now that the Supreme Court has rolled back restrictions on corporate donations to political campaigns. Whiners. Haven’t you all stopped for even a moment to think how this might benefit humanity? Sure, sure, we’re all aware of the downside, but would it kill us to think positive for a change?
I mean, let’s face it: corporations have controlled the agenda since the Mayflower Compact duped those non-puritan (…)
