40 percent of Army reservists fail to report to Fort Jackson

COLUMBIA—Only about 60 percent of reservists ordered to report to Fort Jackson have reported so far, Army officials said.
As of Tuesday, 186 of the 309 members of the Individual Ready Reserve ordered to report to the Columbia base had arrived, said Lt. Col. Burton L. Masters, spokesman for the Army’s Human Resources Command.
"We’re not surprised by those numbers at all," Masters said.
Most of those who have not reported are seeking exemptions from active duty or delays in reporting, he said.
Those who have not reported or applied for a delay or exemption will be considered deserters if they do not show up within seven days of the date they were told to report for duty, Masters said.
"We are going to go the extra mile to work with people," he said. "But if they don’t report, the Army will track them down."
Troops subject to the recall have been on active duty but have not completed their eight-year obligation to the Army.
The Army said 5,600 individual reservists were being recalled to active duty; 4,500 were to report to Fort Jackson. However, orders have been cut for only 3,667 of the soldiers to return to active duty, Masters said. (AP)

Why should they, when one who appears to have committed this very same act, later become President of the United Sates of America?
Oh yeah, these people should adhere to the, "Do what I say, not as I do," line. Right?
Sincerely,
KH
PS: Please don’t get me wrong, I’m just providing an alternate perspective for the sake of argument and for others to look at this issue presented in a different light. Because I am an honorable veteran myself and a firm believer that anyone who refuses to honor the oath they once pledged, is doing wrong.
I have also maintained a similar attitude and stance to the Draft Dodger. If they didn’t go, then who went in their place? It still irritates me to no end that a past President was forgiven for leaving the country during the Viet Nam war in order to evade the draft. This same President later went on to lie to the entire world about a personal incident that never took place in the Oval Office, only to be later proven that it happened numerous times. Sheesh!

Draft Dodger, lies in the White House. Penny ante stuff compared to Abu Graib and Vietnam. If you are a veteran you have to justify your actions some way or I suspect you could not live with yourself.

About time some of these people took a moral stand.....rich of the bush, cheney redneck richboys club to point the finger at anyone who tries to avoid fighting in an immoral war...they did the same in vietnam...I suspect more from protecting their own worthless skins than from any sense of right and wrong

Quote..."What if we gave a war and nobody came? "
Well Gosh, firstly, who would salute the president as they go off to die?
Who would fly those lovely shiny airplanes and drop bombs on innocent children?
Who would steer those beautiful ships and submarines, paid for with taxpayer money?
Who would capture the oil wells and guard the offices of haliburton?
What could the newspapers and fuckwit fox news find to talk about?
What would the shills of hollywood make films about?
Worst of all, it might mean that the billionaire weapons manufacturers might go bankrupt!

Yeah, what if we had a cool country like Switzerland where they have not had a war in almost 400 years. They are a tiny little country and they have the highest standard of living in the world....why? They do not squander their money on buying WMD and asking their people to pay high taxes and get nothing for it except your very own load of bombs to drop on skinny people around the world. Unlike America who is ALWAYS AT WAR.
Some day Americans will look back at Iraq and realize that we could have purchased every drop of their oil for the price we will have to pay for killing their citizens to take their oil, and probably have money left over for some of the things we badly need in this country. And we could have had the moral high ground. Just like in Vietnam.
Our government lied to us for 10 years about that disgraceful war and we as a nation are still suffering the shame and still unable to honestly confront what we did there thirty some years later. Just as we are destined to do in Iraq.
