Three countries that have been allied with the United States are rapidly trying to distance themselves from what appears to be a sinking ship.

First “Turkey on Tuesday signed an agreement with neighboring Iran for joint power production projects despite U.S. pressure against investment in the Islamic Republic.

“Turkish Energy Minister Hilmi Guler played down U.S. discontent with flourishing energy cooperation between its NATO ally Turkey and Iran, saying more agreements would be concluded in the coming days, according to news agency reports.”

Then “Poland’s new prime minister outlined ambitious plans for the next four years in his inaugural address Friday, saying he plans to withdraw troops from Iraq next year but also push for stronger relations with NATO…

“While Tusk and his Civic Platform party want to continue the strong friendship with the U.S., he gave a taste of plans that, taken together, would suggest that the country plans to assert more independence in its relations with Washington.”

And today Australia’s “Conservative Prime Minister John Howard suffered a humiliating defeat … at the hands of the left-leaning opposition, whose leader has promised to immediately sign the Kyoto Protocol on global warming and withdraw Australia’s combat troops from Iraq.”

That’s three devoted allies distancing themselves from the United States in less then one week. It looks like US popularity is taking a steeper drive then the US dollar, a currency which in five-years has lost over 67% relative to some of it’s peers.

  • The Bush Junta has 3 pudels going for them: Brown (British), Merkel (German) and Sarkozy (French). Put photos of Bush and his pudels together and you see Alred Neuman a character from MAD magazin.

    • Hey, don’t forget Barney! In fact, Bush’s only poodle left standing by his side will be Barney if he starts WW3. The next year 2008 will bring many changes to America. Once the $2 billion plus per day we have to borrow to stay alive (pay the FBI, police, military, government, etc) isn’t available things will change rapidly. All the sycophants that sucked up to Bush will be in deep shit. They will be left with nothing to eat except the bullshit they spread everywhere with their doublespeak. Karma is real and we will get what we deserve. Stock up on food and learn how to live like your great grandparents did or you will go extinct. There are many people in America who have been victimized over the last few decades by the draconian government and their war on drugs (people). You are looking at a mass of anger and weaponry that will be difficult to deal with. It all seems like a bad dream, but this nightmare isn’t going to end any time soon. Stand up like a man (human) and demand your God given rights, except nothing less.

    • 50% of the US prison population is black and black people account for 18% of the US population.

  • We live in strange times, very strange times. On the one hand, things in general, let’s say, for instance, America’s education and energy policies (or more precisely the lack of policies) are approaching, if not already in, a state of crisis. On the other hand you hear the resolute optimists insist that technology will find a way. Just believe. Keep the faith. Follow the Secret. Don’t be negative.

Negative’s out now. You’re constantly hearing people from all walks of life, after hearing about two paragraphs of critical comments - which is about the acceptable threshold for believers in the Secret - say, C’mon, lighten up. Don’t be so doom and gloom. Consequently, the immoral "War on Terror" - a "war" that millions of people around the world, as well as in America, realize is an enormous blunder - continues with very light criticism. The networks keep showing shops selling pastries and newspapers that are operating without being blown up. Is that the measure of success? Is that why we should keep our criticism to ourselves?

What about the nonexistent government in Iarq? The Secret believers will tell you you’re not being patriotic. What about the fact that America has been inciting terrorism instead of fighting it? The Secret believers will insist that we’re winning against the terrorists and spreading democracy throughout the region.

Gradually the rest of the world has come to realize the bankruptcy of our foreign policies, but yet many Americans insist on "Keeping it positive." Until Americans become less thin-skinned and able to face the facts as they actually exist, they’re going to sink further. And soon, after most of the nations around the world who criticized America for its foriegn policy follies to no avail find that they can go on existing without America’s involvement, Americans will find themselves in a hole so deep that none of the king’s horses and none of the kings men will be able to piece together old glory again.
