President must explain why he changed his mind

by Jennifer Monroe

WASHINGTON, D.C. — (OfficialWire) — 08/18/05 — In 1999, George W. Bush criticized then-President Bill Clinton for not setting a timetable for exiting Kosovo, and yet he refuses to apply the same standard to his administration’s illegal war.

"Victory means exit strategy, and it’s important for the President to explain to us what the exit strategy is."
—George W. Bush, Houston Chronicle April 9, 1999

"If we are going to commit American troops, we must be certain they have a clear mission, an achievable goal and an exit strategy."
—Karen Hughes, speaking on behalf of George W Bush

When Clinton committed troops to Bosnia, Bush, who was governor of Texas at the time, felt an exit strategy was very important.

Fast-forward a few years and Bush has apparently changed his mind. Few of his supporters question why he has done so, yet they find the time to slime Cindy Sheehan for what they believe is a flip-flop on her opinion of their president.

In my opinion, Sheehan has every right to change her opinion of Bush, whether she has or not, though I don’t think she has at all. The real question is: Why hasn’t everyone else?

Sheehan is calling for our troops to come home. Seems to be a fairly reasonable request. More than 1,600 supporting vigils took place yesterday throughout America confirming that the majority of Americans agree. Sheehan traveled to the president’s Crawford ranch after Bush said that fallen U.S. troops had died for a ’noble cause’ and that the mission must be completed.

"I want to ask the president, ’Why did you kill my son? What did my son die for?" Sheehan told reporters. "Last week, you said my son died for a noble cause’ and I want to ask him what that noble cause is?"

But not only does Bush refuse to talk with her, he will not end the needless death of our soldiers and thousands of innocent Iraqis. He also seems to have forgotten the importance of an exit strategy.

The hypocrisy of the Bush administration is priceless!

But then, you already knew that.
