Bush should resign for lying about Iraq

We need to withdraw from Iraq immediately. Even our own generals tell us that our presence there is only making things worse. President Bush has violated the public trust with his snake-oil sales pitch for support for his invasion and occupation of a sovereign nation whose only fault was to suspend the sale of its oil in protest of the crippling sanctions that it was under.

It is no secret that Bush was itching for regime change in Baghdad even before the twin towers were hit on 9/11, giving him the “Pearl Harbor” event that he needed to drum up support for his war. The Downing Street memo document the fact that at least from July 2002, Bush was illegally seeking support for his war from British Prime Minister Tony Blair and was stepping up bombing in Iraq without just cause or authorization from Congress or the United Nations.

Due to this violation of public trust, Bush must resign or face impeachment. If a president can be impeached for lying about an extramarital affair, certainly one can be impeached for his violation of the public trust in luring us into an unnecessary, immoral, unjustifiable and illegal war.

Should we withdraw from Iraq? Hell, yes! I invite all who share these or similar sentiments to stand with me in advertising for peace on the first Saturday of each month, from noon to 1 p.m., at the Fort Wayne Courthouse Green.

U.S. needs plan for leaving Iraq

Iraq is no closer to stability than it was a year ago. Things keep getting worse every week. Our people have been killed and others’ lives, including Iraqis, have been damaged forever. The United States is fueling a growing insurgency. Our presence only makes the problem worse.

We got into this war based on lies - the wrong way. It is time to get out of it the right way. The first step is to realize the Bush policy is out of step with reality.

We need: a real exit plan; a real timeline providing real accountability for our leaders; to turn control of training Iraqi forces and rebuilding Iraq to the international community; to renounce permanent military bases in Iraq because this is a continuing source of anger and distrust for the Iraqi people.

  • Bring the troops home

    To the Editor:

Iraq is no closer to stability than it was a year ago. Things keep getting worse every week. More than 1,700 Americans have been killed and more than 12,000 wounded.

The U.S. occupation is fueling a growing insurgency. American generals have reported that more foreign fighters are present in Iraq now than were there six months ago. Our presence is exacerbating the problem. There are tens of thousands of insurgents backed by hundreds of thousands of supporters.

We got into this war based on lies — the wrong way. It’s time to get out the right way. The first step is to realize that the Bush policy is out of touch with reality.

As a former Air Force member, i support the troops 110 percent. Bring them home.

  • All these people who are demanding that Bush pull the troops out of Iraq are really aiding and abetting the terrorists in Iraq. In the first gulf war, we had encouraged the Iraqis to fight Saddam and they did thinking that we would support them, instead we pulled out and left them to suffer the consequences all by themselves. We do it again this time and it would only prove to them how like the French we are, total cowards.

    • Americans are total cowards, deal with it!

    • I don’t think that we should pull the troops out yet, I actually agree. We made the mess now we have to clean it up. However, what does need to happen soon is the exposure of the neocon agenda and how they are using a distorted vision of manifest destiny to fuel the war machine. I mean, it’s not hard to distinguish who is making the money!

    • To all those wishing to keep the occupation of Iraq going I have a suggestion. Go to your nearest video store and pick up "Born on the 4th of July -Tom Cruise. If you think the situation in Viet Nam and the injuries sustained there were bad compare the numbers of seriously injured in Iraq to the ones in Viet Nam. With all the protective armour and advanced medical treatments the wheel chair buisness is booming. Never mind that the war was cooked from the start and all the lies which have followed will in the end not be sufficient to maintain this massive charade. The sooner the politicans declare victory the soldiers will return with limbs, sight, sound, smell touch and perhaps a good nights sleep after treatment for PTS.

    • i dont know where you are form or where you grew up, my man, but if you said that in my neighborhood you would have some ..."disagreement"...ahem...but you wouldnt have the guts; i know. you are funny. peace, little one.

    • only one problem with the analogy dude, VN had significant differences from iraq. to wit, a few:

no nationalistic unifying figure (uncle ho)
no political agenda of the insurgents
no sanctuaries (yeah, i know syria, but once the new gov of iraq is fully "loaded", i givew that problem about a 3 month over/under)
willingness of IP’s to fight for indig gov

theres more. care to hear them, or have you stopped lsitening and thinking? let me know, and i will expound. it might change your mind. if its open to that. ready??

    • The war is one mess, the Bush crime family is another. Impeachment of Bush would show the Iraqis that Americans do not condone criminals running their country. Bush should be made an example of and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the laws he has broken along with all of the other criminals in our government. But instead the government crooks have just awarded Halliburton another 45 bllion dollars in contracts in Iraq which only sends one message to the world: CRIME PAYS.

    • If Iraq was really going to be given democracy then they could simply have the citizens vote on the issue of the U.S. and Britian staying or leaving. That would be the only true democracy that would have legitimaticy. But of course the installed "democracy" actually being run by the CIA will never allow the Iraqis to make decisions concerning occupation because that was just an phony excuse for taking over their country all along. Its called oil friends, that’s right oil, the root of all evil.
