The "Bushie" hardliners make no bones about it; "Victory" is what they’re after in Iraq, and be hanged with any dissention from the peanut gallery (read: U.S.Democratic Congress).
Of course, the Neoconers have never even vaguely attempted to qualify or quantify what is meant by victory. Is it a strong, honest, representative government, dedicated to equanimity? Fat chance. The Maliki government is corrupt, biased toward the Shia (and their militias),and in all respects greedy.

Perhaps victory means a sound and beautiful Iraq, the paradise of times gone by, with completely rebuilt infrastructure, wide avenues, fabulous museums,a glorious zoo,and class eductaional facilities. We wiped all that off the map years ago, and those contractors given the big bucks to perform miracles...hit the road long ago, taking their hard earned swag with them.

Is victory a unified Iraq? The Kurds Suni and Shia clasping hands and sharing resources? Hell no! Just look at their current behavior. And if the sectarian violence (Civil War) wasn’t enough of a blight on "democracy", to the North the Kurds are pressured by their neighbors the Turks (American allies), and OUR troops have sworn to aid that country should a fight ensue against Kurdish rebels.

I think that what Bushies really mean by ’victory’ in Iraq is an enormous US embassy/CIA listening post, manned by 1500 staffers and supported by 10,000 troops...and 14 large military bases and airstrips, all created to permit a long term US military presence in the Middle East, poised to "liberate" yet another axis of evil.

The trouble is: How do the Bushies persuade the American public, much less the Iraqis, that THIS victory has real merit?

  • You hit the nail right on the head, mon ami. Victory to the neocon’s tiny collective mind is the establishment of permanent imperial outposts, heavily manned with the latest 21st Century gadgetry, throughout not only the Middle East, but eventually the entire planet and even beyond. Pax Americana they call it. The neo-fascists are very much afraid of the return of the Ancients: The Chinese, the Indians and the Russians, whose nations have had far greater economic growth for the last 10 years than America. They believe that in order to keep America’s leadership in this world, the US must slow down or stop any further growth by these nations, who by the way have their own Economic Community and NATO, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, SCO, and will not sit idly by if and when the American military machine continues to encroach on their part of the world.

Instead of reinvesting in our future, instead of funding alternative sources of energy, these neo-fascists would rather use brute force, no matter how expensive, no matter how costly in blood and no matter how much of our civil liberties they will erode, to keep America’s precarious hold on the world’s economy. Their stupidity is truly monumental.

Eventually, within 5 years, the neo-fascists’ dreams of empire will be long dead. Without a vibrant economy and strong support by the American people for such an expensive and ultimately un-American endeavor, they will soon find their dreams unsustainable, and we as a people will inherit a bankrupt federal government and a third class economy. Anyone who has kept close tabs on global economics and especially the precious commodities markets already know that this country is on the verge of suffering an economic tsunami.

NOTE: These corrupt parasites that control the US Federal Government should be called fascists and not neocons. Neo implies newness, but there is nothing new about them, and con is short for conservative and as a real conservative I take great affront that these closet Trotskyites have the gall to call themselves American conservatives. Any nation that ultimately spends 40% of its people’s income tax on the upkeep of its vast military machine, year after year, is indeed a fascist nation.

    • I applaud your most erudite and accurate response. I don’t know if I am a "true conservative", but I know exactly what you mean, and certainly cannot disagree.

  • How can a war be "won" when the reasons for going to war were based on lies? WMD’s , Saddam & Al Quida, Saddam & 911. This wasn’t faulty intelligence, the intelligence told them that none of these factors were true. Bush lied to get public support for this sad misadventure.
