Wars and conflicts International Governments USA

Today we all saw Condi Rice speak at the U.N. and propose the WEAK resolution (which passed 15-0 in favor), for cessation of hostilities and the influx of approx. 20,000 Lebanese troops to control South Lebanon.

Hint: It won’t work. This is just a face-saving move for UN members to salve their collective consciences. They knew they had to finally do something, so they did. Lip service and hope.

Just as simple as that.

So what comes next? There is NO timeline for disarming or even for a ceasefire of any kind. It is devoutly hoped, of course, that there will be a LULL in the horrendous bombing and shelling so that humanitarian aid can arrive over mostly devastated roads and through gullies underneath destroyed bridges. In Tyre the people have only enough supplies to last two days...then they start dying. Well, you die one way or another, I guess. What’s the difference?

I predict (and it doesn’t take a rocket scientist) that hostilities will INCREASE. Israel will play the "We gave it an honest chance" game, and then storm more deeply into Lebanon’s guts with thousands of troops and hundreds more tanks and overhead support...and try to obliterate the "Hez"...who, I suspect, won’t be vanquished without an all out last ditch fight.

Disarm? No way. And the Lebanese Army isn’t about to try that either.

Que Sera,sera.

  • And so, BBC.CO.UK and INDEPENDENT.CO.UK were reporting that Israel bombed various points in Lebanon a few hours after the passage of the resolution.

  • Negativity will not make matters better! Just your negative article alone is enough to bring out a full war in the Middle East. One wonders what you are all about?

    "Wonderwall"

  • The Lebonese Army???? What Lebonese Army? Virtually non-existant and non-effective and you know it. However, their should be one. A real army of the LEBONESE GOVERMENT!!!!!!

    • I don’t think ’Villy’ is being negative, but realistic. The UN is relatively toothless, and is subservient to Washington. How many UN Resolutions condemning Israels incursions into Palestinian land have been vetoed by the US ? 70 odd ?.

Right, if the United Nations acted as how we’d like it too, and lived up to its name, it’d be what we’d all like. - A World thats major decisions are determined via a democratic set up of nations voting on the outcome. We know it’s not like that. In reality its an official watchdog, like the ones announced by governments to oversee out of control companies charging us what they like for basic necessities like water and heat. They step in at the last moment, when we know we wont pay any more, but in essence work for the one with the biggest stick or wallet.

  • Frankly, I think villy made just the right call on this. The one who posted the following:

    >Negativity will not make matters better!
    >Just your negative article alone is
    >enough to bring out a full war in the
    >Middle East. One wonders what you are
    >all about?
    >"Wonderwall"
gives "our villy" a lot of power doesn’t he? He says villy’s article alone is enough ? to bring out a "full scale" war? Don’t you think that anyone with this kind of power would be on bushie, the c-in-chief’s hit list...In this "era of bush" and let us not forget "rummy, the sect. of def." control’s what passes for "their kind of negativity" from ever seeing the light of day...We the people have no Watchdogs to let us know what is going on anywhere and especially in the Bush Administration.

So, villy, don’t you dare go getting a big head now, will you? Just because this "Wonderwall" person gives your "piece" the power to start a full scale war in the Middle East? I bet you are laughing your ’ahem off at that, eh? ..Prof_H.. lol
