Dear President Bush

Dear President Bush:

In this, your most distressing hour, with poll numbers down to rock bottom, I am writing to let you know that you’ve still got fans out here in the American hinterlands.

I been told you’ve had a bad rap in the press and by those weasley Democrats who only wish you ill. Various pundits are saying you were an idiot way back when 9/11 happened and you just sat there reading My Pet Goat. I just think you were focused and enjoying yourself. Anyone can do that.

I loved it when you stood on the pile of rubble with the bullhorn and made that histerical speech with that goofy looking big hatted fireman, telling the Taliban that you were coming! What bravado!, what cajones! I swear I thought you’d go yourself and lead our troops, but I understand you can’t do that.

I applauded when you switched objectives and went after that monster Saddam in Iraq,even though we had supported him previously. Hey!, sometimes friendships have to come to an end. After all, he had WMDs and was a new-q-lar threat, wasn’t he?. I believed you and still think those WMDs were sneaked across the border into Syria or buried where no one has looked yet. Surely. Surely.

I almost swooned when you personally landed that jet on the S.S. Lincoln and announced,wearing that fantastic suit and surrounded by pastel soldiers "Mission Accomplished!" It was evident that the main fighting was over and only the mop up of heathens remained.

I marvelled at the toppling of the Saddam statue by angry Iraqi Chalabi groupies.

I loved the rescue of Ms.Lynch in the hospital!

I slavered at the mouth watering turkey when you held it for the troops!. I know they called you a dufus and a fake,but I stood by you.

I loved it when you told the paltry handful of "terrorists" in their "last throes", after we had "broken their backs"....."Bring ’em on!". To bad that they did. Frankly, I thought them to be cowards. I guess even I can err.

The war will be won. We all know that. I understand that hospitals and schools are coming along nicely, that employment figures are changing, and that electricity is coming near pre war levels, sort of.

You have been an extraordinary president, Mr. Bush. Just because they call you ignorant or stupid or inept or incompetent is no reason to heed their voices.

As I said at the beginning of this letter, you still have fans out here. I don’t know who they are, but I’m gong to find out. When I do, I’ll get back to you.
