At 12:03 a.m. on July 28, the House of Representatives approved CAFTA, the Central America-Dominican Republic-United States Free Trade Agreement.
The bill, which would expand NAFTA to Central America and the Dominican Republic, would devastate farmers, privatize essential public services, and accelerate the race to the bottom on wages in the U.S. and all over Central America.
At the end of the allotted 15 minutes of voting time, the count was 180 to 175 against CAFTA, (…)

TV Anchors; field-marshals in the Information-war
30 July 2005 par (Open-Publishing)
5 commentsTelevision news is the frontlines in the war on terror. That’s where the symbols of national pride merge with the logic of war and thrust the nation towards aggression. The same was true with Iraq. The anti-war voices were excluded, the pro-war advocates were celebrated, and the drumbeat was sounded from every corner of the country. The pre-war strategy for marshalling popular support was the most flawlessly executed public relations scheme in modern times; the thunderous music echoing in (…)

KARL ROVE and VARIOUS SPIES HE IS LINKED TO
Karl Rove’s only full-time foreign-policy advisor is Michael Ledeen, a rabid anti-Arab, pro-Israel activist. The FBI is investigating Ledeen for procuring forged documents (shown here) on nonexistent WMD, which George Bush used to justify his war on Iraq. When Joseph Wilson exposed the farce, Rove helped "out" Wilson’s CIA wife. Did Ledeen procure the documents for Rove, and how might he have done (…) -

Scary Police State emerges in UK and USA
25 July 2005 par (Open-Publishing)
56 commentsThe powers that be are taking us down another notch towards a total police state. What should cause public outrage is being swept aside as par for the course in today’s world of terror attacks.
London police just chased down a man and shot him- after they had him detained and he did NOT appear to be a threat.
He was pinned down on the floor and shot through the head five times- is that ok with you?!
If he had a bomb strapped on him, why didn’t the police remove his coat to prove it? (…) -
Blair spends thousands on make-up
24 July 2005 par (Open-Publishing)
5 commentsPrime Minister Tony Blair has spent more than £1,800 of taxpayers’ money on cosmetics and make-up artists since coming into office, it has emerged.
Between 1999 and 2005 Downing Street paid £1,050.22 for cosmetics for Mr Blair’s media appearances.
Another £791.20 was spent over the past two years on make-up artists.
But this seems modest compared with Irish premier Bertie Ahern, who is reported to have spent more than £115,000 on his appearance since 1997.

PARIS. For the last year, Fatima Louarn and her family have shared a tiny Paris hotel room because they could find nowhere else to live. Now she is pregnant and the owner wants to kick her out.
About 8,000 people live in shabby hotels in Paris, often sharing a bathroom with dozens of other people, and living off sandwiches because they are not allowed to cook in their rooms.
"It’s not a life. You feel like you’re in prison," says Louarn, a 37-year-old unemployed (…) -

Website that carried al-Qaida claim has connections to Bush family
11 July 2005 par (Open-Publishing)
7 commentsThe claim of responsibility for the London attacks was first posted on one of the dozens of Islamic websites that are routinely monitored by western intelligence services.
The statement, under the name of the Secret Organisation of the al-Qaida Jihad in Europe, said: "The heroic mujahideen have carried out a blessed raid in London. Britain is now burning with fear, terror and panic in its northern, southern, eastern and western quarters."
It was posted on an Arabic website, (…)
