Dear Sheila,
When I wrote to you concerning a position you took in one of your columns (Last Man To Concede ) and questioned you about your reasons for that stance, I must confess I had no idea of the depth of your Democratic fealty or passion, nor any understanding as to how you could defend the Democratic Party, especially given what they have become in recent years: cumulatively-servile and Republican-dominated toadies.
Sheila, I believe I ‘get it’, and with this increased (…)

Two celebrations, two Americas: MLK Day and Bush’s Inauguration
19 January 2005 par (Open-Publishing)
by Derrick O’Keefe
This week features two major celebrations in the United States, and the contrasts between the figures being feted couldn’t be starker. Thursday’s second inauguration for George W. Bush comes only three days after Martin Luther King Day was celebrated on Monday, January 17. The two celebrations couldn’t be more opposed, revealing the chasm between the ‘two Americas.’ Gay and lesbian rights, and peace and justice issues were raised in a series of marches celebrating the (…) -

A former Jordanian government minister has told The New Yorker that an American official confirmed to him that the Iraqi interim Prime Minister, Iyad Allawi, executed six suspected insurgents at a Baghdad police station last year.
The claim is in an extensive profile of Dr Allawi written for this week’s issue of the magazine by an American journalist, Jon Lee Anderson, the author of The Fall of Baghdad and a regular Baghdad correspondent for The New Yorker.

Global poll slams Bush leadership
Negative feelings for Mr Bush extended to Americans as a whole More than half of people surveyed in a BBC World Service poll say the re-election of US President George W Bush has made the world more dangerous.
Only three countries - India, Poland and the Philippines - out of 21 polled believed the world was now safer.
The survey found that 47% now viewed US influence in the world as largely negative and such unfavourable feelings extended towards (…) -
‘Something is wrong in America’- An interview with Greg Palast
18 January 2005 par (Open-Publishing)
6 commentsBy Daniel Strumpf
Interviewing Greg Palast is a bit like rummaging through your mother’s nightstand-you’re bound to learn some things you’ll wish you hadn’t. As an investigative journalist seen on the BBC’s Newsnight and England’s most influential newspaper, The Guardian, Palast is most famous for exposing racist scheming behind the 2000 Florida election scandal nearly a year before the mainstream American media got around to it.
If you’ve never heard of Palast, an American himself, it’s (…) -

Columbus - The battle is over and electronic voting machines, at least in Ohio, are dead.
After years of wrangling and protests, Secretary of State Ken Blackwell announced Wednesday that he will limit Ohio’s uncompleted voting-machine conversion to a single device: the precinct-count optical-scan machine.
The decision effectively sidelines the embattled (…) -
Bush Says Election Ratified Iraq Policy
17 January 2005 par (Open-Publishing)
4 commentsby Jim VandeHei and Michael A. Fletcher
President Bush said the public’s decision to reelect him was a ratification of his approach toward Iraq and that there was no reason to hold any administration officials accountable for mistakes or misjudgments in prewar planning or managing the violent aftermath.
"We had an accountability moment, and that’s called the 2004 elections," Bush said in an interview with The Washington Post. "The American people listened to different assessments made (…) -

Big media has lost credibility- Americans turn to internet for truth on stolen election

Last Friday I addressed a group of Democrats in a Blount County cafeteria, and standing there amid some 50 or so finishing their coffee and iced tea and apple pie, I satisfied my curiosity about something: "How many of you believe Bush stole the 2004 election?" I asked.
I was surprised when at least two-thirds immediately raised their hands. Ask the same question to a room full of Republicans, and you’ll get hooted off the floor. It’s a sign of the times. These days what (…) -

Waters: Look at all this proof, it is clear Ohio has failed to run a fair election.
Delay: There was no disenfranchisment, there is no evidence... this is "an assault against the institutions of our representative democracy."
Video proof of disenfranchisment = video proof that Tom Delay lied on the floor of the House
