WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The United States on Tuesday failed to secure international support for targeted sanctions against Iran and President George W. Bush refused to rule out nuclear strikes if diplomacy failed to curb the Islamic Republic’s atomic ambitions.
Bush said he would discuss Iran’s nuclear activities with China’s President Hu Jintao, who has been cool toward sanctions, during his U.S. visit this week.
Asked if his options included planning for a nuclear (…) -

Environment in crisis: ’We are past the point of no return’
Thirty years ago, the scientist James Lovelock worked out that the Earth possessed a planetary-scale control system which kept the environment fit for life. He called it Gaia, and the theory has become widely accepted. Now, he believes mankind’s abuse of the environment is making that mechanism work against us. His astonishing conclusion - that climate change is already insoluble, (…) -

Israeli policy makers and their allies, the US and the EU, are determined to bring the Hamas-led Palestinian Authority to its knees. This “Axis of Double Standards” touts its moral high ground even while it bullies, bombs and blackmails countries that refuse to mold themselves in its image.
This uncompassionate triad merrily spends billions on wars and selectively sprinkles largesse to (…) -

Two academics from the Chicago University Political Science Department and the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University shocked the tender sensibilities of the chattering classes when they published a damning study of how and to what extent "the Israel Lobby" influences U.S. foreign policy.
The paper has been dissected and criticized, often hysterically, by both (…) -

The people of England have been led in Mesopotamia into a trap from which it will be hard to escape with dignity and honor. They have been tricked into it by a steady withholding of information. The Baghdad communiqués are belated, insincere, incomplete. Things have been far worse than we have been told, our administration more bloody and inefficient than the public (…) -
