Bush says "Stay the course." The People say "Troops Out Now!"
30 June 2005 par (Open-Publishing)
1 commentNow, more than ever, it is vital that the antiwar movement be in the streets. The Troops Out Now Coalition is joining with the September 24 National Coalition, which includes the National Council of Arab-Americans (NCA), the Muslim American Society (MAS) Freedom Foundation, the A.N.S.W.E.R Coalition, the Haiti Support Network, the Alliance for a Just and Lasting Peace in the Philippines, and the National Lawyers Guild, in order to help build a unified demonstration against the war.

WE TOO WANT ANSWERS
By Peter Fredson
June 30, 2005
A headline from Reuters today reads:
Bush says wants answers on Iran leader’s past
The story continues:
“President George W. Bush said on Thursday he wanted answers on whether Iranian President-elect Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was a leader in the 1979 U.S. Embassy siege as some former hostages have said.”
"I have no information," Bush told reporters. "But obviously his involvement raises many questions, and knowing how active people (…) -

By Peter Fredson
June 30, 2005
A comment from a reporter concerning George W. Bush’s speech on June 27th was that he was “ebullient.” . My collegiate dictionary describes ebullience as “A boiling up or over: overflow.” While ebullient is a “boiling up or causing such action; hence, manifesting exhilaration or excitement, as of feeling.”
My computer WORD thesaurus describes ebullient as “cheerful, happy, fun, jovial, bright, and cheery.” I thought all those (…) -
Kucinich: New Urgency to bipartisan efforts to pass "Homeward Bound" Resolution
30 June 2005 par (Open-Publishing)
11 commentsIraq Withdrawal Bill Critical and Timely
There is a new urgency to our bipartisan efforts to pass House Joint Resolution 55, a bill to establish a plan to begin the end of the war in Iraq. Last night’s nationally televised speech by the President made it clear we are in Iraq for time indefinite. While the Administration relentlessly conflates Iraq and 9/11, the war in Iraq is not about Saddam and WMDs anymore. It’s about terror, terrorists, and anti-terrorists: the President told us that (…) -
Mr President, I’ll fly my flag at half staff on July 4
30 June 2005 par (Open-Publishing)
1 commentI was struck by the demeanor of the 700 soldiers in dress uniform attending the President’s speech last night at Ft Bragg. They were polite. The singular time there was applause came at the prompting of a White House Advance team person.
The soldiers were the dignity and nobility in that room last night. Their Commander in Chief, our President seems to have a way with exploiting the dignity of our military and our loved ones deployed who are doing the grist of the ’hard work’ . The litany (…) -
15 Things Learned About Bush&Co.: An Impeachment List
30 June 2005 par (Open-Publishing)
2 commentsThough my degrees are in government and international relations, I hadn’t been part of the political arena in an activist way since "The Sixties" — roughly the Civil Rights Movement late-’50s through the anti-Vietnam War mid-’70s. Instead, after years of college teaching, I found myself more engaged in cultural work as a playwright, poet and newspaper reporter, and, for nearly two decades, as a theater critic.
When 9/11 arrived, something snapped open in me, as it did for many Americans. (…) -
Bush And Cheney Should Resign
30 June 2005 par (Open-Publishing)
Bush And Cheney Should Resign Andre M. Hernandez June 29, 2005 Even the people who supported this corrupt administration have to admit that this has gone too far. The Downing Street Memos and the shocking revelations that have come out during the Haliburton Reconstruction Hearings have gone beyond the smoking gun needed to overhaul a system that has no fail safes to protect the American peoples interests. Bush and Cheney are two of the most corrupt leaders of this or any other nation in (…)

1 commentAhead: Six Decades Of Humiliation Ted Rall June 29, 2005 NEW YORK-The world hates us more than ever, according to a new Pew Research poll of 16,000 citizens in 15 countries. Most Canadians think Americans are exceptionally rude. The Chinese say we’re violent and greedy. Nearly half of Turks—up from 32 percent a year ago—say they dislike Americans as individuals and America as a nation, according to the survey. Muslims have a "quite negative hostility toward America," says Pew president (…)

Representative Strickland to Bush "Just asking America to stay the course won’t cut it anymore"
30 June 2005 par (Open-Publishing)
As public support for the war in Iraq wanes, the majority of Ohio’s congressional delegation would not give a direct answer about whether the war has been worth the costs, according to a newspaper’s survey. However, following Tuesday’s national address made by President Bush, U.S. Rep. Ted Strickland, D-Dover, called for the president to answer the nation’s questions about the war.
"Tonight, President Bush told America what we already know," said Strickland Tuesday. "Unfortunately, the (…)
