Kucinich: Brazen Attacks in Iraq Defy Administration’s Rhetoric
Iraq Out of Control; January Elections Will Be a Sham
WASHINGTON — December 21 — Congressman Dennis J. Kucinich (D-OH) issued the following statement today on the escalating violence in Iraq:

"The brazen executions, captured on film for the world to see, shows Iraq out of control, despite Administration rhetoric. The US occupation has failed to provide security. It’s time for the Administration to be honest with the American public: Free and fair elections cannot, and will not, happen under such conditions. The January election can only be a sham.
"American troops and American taxpayers are footing the bill for a war that was never needed, and a war that is counterproductive to the security interests of our nation. No weapons of mass destruction have been found in Iraq and the 9/11 Commission has determined that Saddam Hussein had nothing to do with the September 11th attacks.
"This Administration is conducting a war with no end. Iraqi elections, while an important step, will not bring an end to the US occupation of Iraq, and will not bring our soldiers home.
"The continued occupation of Iraq is draining our financial resources here at home, and is harming our military readiness worldwide. We cannot continue down this path.
"Now is the time for a new direction in Iraq. We must end the occupation of Iraq. It is time for a new plan. It is time, to begin the process of getting the UN in and the US out."

If only we had listened to Dennis a year ago, thousands of deaths could have been prevented.
"Other Democrats join the Bush Administration in explaining that ’We can’t cut and run.’ I say we can’t continue the damage we are causing and cannot begin repairing it until we withdraw our occupying army. We must pay for what we destroyed. We must pay reparations to the families of innocent civilians we killed and injured. But we must work through the United Nations. We must allow the United Nations to facilitate the creation of a democratic government that will be acceptable to the Iraqi people. No government created by the United States will be. It is better that we recognize this now than after the next 500 deaths."
While the Bush administration remains in denial, the majority of the American people are waking up to the reality of this illegal immoral war. It is not too late to listen to Dennis now, he has a detailed plan to get the US out of Iraq ASAP. You can see why Halliburton thought he was unelectable...

The only problem with this kind of ’voice of the people’ politician is that the electorate sit back and assume that their concerns are being adhered to. We already know the Iraq ’elections’ are a non-starter and the only reason troops are their is to oversee the plunder of natural resources.
People sit back and assume that their causes and concerns are being seen to. This legitimises their ruling mandate further, and can be an obstacle to real change, such as troop withdrawl.
Whether the politicians are acting in good faith or not, nothing changes. They, and us, forget that they’re supposed to be representing us, although sadly most politicians are, as we know, only going through the motions for their carreer, ego, and financial gain.

I don’t understand your comment....Would it be better if we had no one representing us in DC? The idea is to be grateful for the representation that we do have, and do our best to demand more from the sellouts, who are clearly in the majority.
Dennis Kucinich is one of the only congresspeople standing up for ’we the people’ and we need to stand behind him.

Rep. KOOK-cinich returns with more of his defeatist blather.
"Get the US out and the UN in." Sure - replace the present coalition with a "willing" UN contingent who will take all of the sniper fire and suicide bombings, and not accomplish a damn thing just like Kosovo. That’s real progress there, Mr. Congressman, especially when the UN turned tail after their Baghdad HQ was bombed. Please.
It’s all a vast conspiracy to you, isn’t it? Keep thinking that when you’re stumping for reelection in 2006.

It is evident what’s going to happen. Iraq has 73 different parties on coalition on the ballots!
Most of this groops will never gain any political power in the so called parliament. Instead the
winner is already set: Mr. Alliwa the current American issued P.M. The very same happened
in Afghanistan. International observance will not take place!
America will not allow a Shite islamic government as it come out of truly elections. The talking
about Sunni insurgency in the news is rubbish. All Iraqi fighting against the American lead
occupation!
