Israeli-US War in Lebanon and Palestine: a crime against humanity
by Open-Publishing - Sunday 6 August 2006Wars and conflicts International
An umbrella organization of various progressive groups today condemned
the Israeli Government and its military leadership for the criminal
air strikes, sea and land bombardments of Lebanon.
"We especially abhor the killing of innocent civilians, such as the
bombardment of Qana village and the murder of mainly women, children
and the old. This is a crime against humanity", said Wilson Fortaleza,
spokesperson for Laban ng Masa.
Also, the war already has claimed the lives of two of our OFWs, Mary
Jane Pangilinan ang Michelle Tomogan, and has displaced thousands of
our overseas workers there.
"Israel is the real terrorist here. Despite international outrage, it
continues to expand it’s occupation through a ground offensive and has
now sent in thousands of ground troops into Lebanon" Fortaleza added.
Laban ng Masa is a broad progressive coalition of more than a hundred
independent organizations.
According to Fortaleza Laban ng Masa "will use all avenues available
to us to bring pressure to bear on Israel and it’s supporters, such as
the US and the UK, to stop this war." It is also supporting the Stop
the War coalition in it’s campaign against the war.
"The GMA regime is pretending to be concerned about the safety of the
OFWs in Lebanon. The OWWA fund not being brought out and accounted for
is a scandal and is another episode in the stench of corruption and
illegitimacy that continue to plague this regime — and we are running
out of time. GMA’s crocodile tears for the OFWs is further exposed by
the fact that the government is refusing to call for an immediate
ceasefire and withdrawal of Israeli occupation troops."
"The only way to save lives, including that of the OFWs, is to put
pressure on Israel for an immediate ceasefire and troop withdrawal
from Lebanon and the Gaza in Palestine, followed by a just political
settlement. If the UN is not to be seen as a tool of the US,
especially by the people in the Middle East, it should take a lead and
demand this from Israel", Fortaleza said. #
