"I joined in ’03," ’cause I was broke, I needed money, but I was a young American kid, I wanted to fight in a war. I joined up. [A] month out of training I arrived in Baghdad, Iraq, January ’04. Saddam’s been captured. And I get there and the guys I’m serving with have been there for six months already; they were there in ’03. And I go, "Well, you know what, I think it’s come out that, you know, these people had nothing to do with 9/11, there was no Iraqi on those planes.

We can see around here there’s no Al Qaida, there’s no terrorist syndicates in Baghdad, or Iraq. Saddam had stamped ’em out." And I asked my buddies, "Well, you know, we’re here to find ’weapons of mass destruction’." And they laughed at me. And I said, "Well, you know, we’re here to ’help the people.’" And they laughed at me. And I said, "What’s our mission? What’s our goal?"...They’re like, "All we’re trying to do is make it home alive..."

Anderson describes the escalation of violence against unarmed civilians:

"In April, they told us, "In a crowded area, if one person shoots at you, kill everybody." Anderson explains the rationale from the officers: "They [members of the crowd of people] are letting them [the person or persons firing at the U.S. military] attack you. They’re no longer innocent if they’re there at the time of the crime..."

  • The Iraq invasion and occupation were planned well before the bush/cheney criminal regime thieved their way into the white house.

    It is well known(at least to those of us out there who bothered to keep ourselves reasonably well informed on the subject) that the cheney energy task force had drawn up extensive maps of the oil fields in Iraq and a strategy to seize them and keep the oil from being shipped from them to the world’s markets in order to precipitate the gradual rise in oil prices and the the prices of everything else that are dependent upon the availability of abundant oil to remain affordable to the masses of human beings.

    Those who make claims that the U.S. (or any other nation that are overwhelmingly armed with conventional and nuclear weapons) is going to war as against "communists" or "terrorists" or "militants" or whatever glib term they happen to employ at the time and which serves their insidious hidden agendas are using the same old ploy that other power mad and wealth mongers have used throughout recorded human history and which by all indications is still all too effective at manipulating modern-day "civilized americans" into a trance-like lemming stampede to war and self destruction-the lie that everyone is threatened by an unremitting and remorseless enemy bent on conquering and murdering them all and that the only way to prevent it and to fight back is to hit them first devastatingly.

    And the witless fools who march in time to the martial drums of war and listen to the strident fascistic rhetoric calling for the heads of the "enemy" whomever they are told they are and wherever they are told they reside have fallen for the oldest and most monstrous lie known to humanity without any desire on their part to stop and think if what they are being told by their leaders is the truth or a lie.

    The "flag", "our way of life", and "our safety and security" are the buttons that evil people like bush and cheney and the neocons push on because they know that doing so will whip frightened people into a blind raging homicidal frenzy like a pack of wild animals on the hunt for any prey that happens to be there to be torn apart.

    The Iraqi people (and the Afghani people) were the unfortunate targets of the weapon of mass destruction known as pissed off americans seeking vengeance for 9-11. The american people were directed towards preselected targets by bush and cheney like unmanned aerial drones going from one bombing mission to another without questioning their orders or pondering the morality of what they were doing.

    The "al qaeda" or "terrorists" that we read or hear about on the news media being blown into atomized mist by U.S. forces are most likely just innocent civilians who just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. There is no "al qaeda" in Iraq or anywhere else for that matter. They were created by the bush/cheney regime and the CIA to create a reason for going berserk in the rest of the world and make up new enemies for America to generate huge profits for the weapons and oil industries and magnify the powers of the government in the hands of those running it.

    There is no ongoing attempt by the U.S. military to quell the violence and death in iraq and impose peace and security in their place because the perpetuation of the violence and death is the whole point of the occupation of Iraq. Wars are not fought to create victors and vanquished and bring peace and stability-they are waged in a manner designed to make them last for years or decades so that the people who profit from them acquire unbelievable wealth.

    The Iraqi and Afghani and other peoples around the world are dying and suffering because greedy and power hungry parasites feed off of the suffering and horror that they cause and will never stop because they will never get enough of it to satiate their limitless hunger and the american people will pay a very high price in human terms and wealth and treasure and security as long as this imperial war/occupation continue and the spread of American empire goes unchecked.

    The american people were being fatted up and prepared to be served up on a platter with an apple in their mouths for many decades by being told by their leaders and larger than life heroes that they were "better than everyone else" and "superior to the rest of the world" just like the german people were told the same things by their nazi leaders over half a century ago .

    A five-thousand year old culture has been destroyed for the benefit of a few malignant people and a million or more people who held within them the collective memories of an ancient society were murdered by soldiers and mercenaries of a nation that is still in childhood by comparison-a war crime for which the bush/cheney regime and the U.S. will most likely not be charged and punished for, which is ultimately sad and tragic for humanity.

    • Well, since you’ve put it that way, I have to agree with you 100%. However, I doubt if Cheney, Bush et al would understand what you have written. Their actions and reactions rise purely from class instinct. You might as well ask a butterfly why it prefers this flower over that one. But, you’re more likely to get a cogent response from it than Cheney, Bush et al.
