In a surprise move today, the Mayor of Kab...er...I mean the President of Afghanistan, Hamid Karzai, is requesting a long-term security pact with the United states that - get this - may include permanent U.S. military bases. When asked about this latest development, Secretary of Defense, Donald Rumsfeld, who is visiting the country, reportedly said that it was up to his boss, Junta leader George Bush to decide if the U.S. will honor Karzai’s request.

In Washington, White House Press Secretary Scott McClellan commented that "discussions are ongoing," but warned, "I don’t want to speculate about anything beyond that."

In all likelihood, Mr. Bush will probably stay up later than usual tonight deciding on what to do about Karzai’s out-of-left-field proposal.

  • Yes he was a Unicoal employee. What do we or can his own people expect from Karzai: deceive.

  • Of course he wants the US to stick around. His country just had their first elections since the paleolithic.

Can we end the occupation of Germany, now? I think the krauts are ready for the training wheels to come off.
