Republicans Violate Own Policy By Paying Officials Legal Bills John Solomon August 11, 2005 Despite a zero-tolerance policy on tampering with voters, the Republican Party has quietly paid hundreds of thousands of dollars to provide private defense lawyers for a former Bush campaign official charged with conspiring to keep Democrats from voting in New Hampshire.
James Tobin, the president’s 2004 campaign chairman for New England, is charged in New Hampshire federal court with four (…)

Congress gives constituents a Bi-Partisan porking...
11 August 2005 par (Open-Publishing)
It is now official; both Democratic and Republican politicians know that you, the voter, will bend over and spread for them, and they have decided to drive it home. In one of the largest successful bipartisan efforts since the original 9/11 legislation, Congress has created an energy bill that is transparent in its fellation of oil companies, and sodomization of the people it should serve. Sen. John McCain, possibly one of the last honorable politicians alive, rightly dubbed this the "No (…)

The Higher Calling of the Low Road

It is the 21st Century and the cover of Time Magazine has pictures of a chimpanzee and God under the bold headline, "Evolution Wars". I turn on the television and a non-descript talking head is promoting the bizarre idea that tax cuts for the rich lead to increased tax revenue. I flip the channel and an effeminate man is lisping about how he prayed away the gay.
How did such weird and scientifically bankrupt ideas find their way into mainstream culture?
The answer is at (…) -

New German Left gains momentum

Veteran east German pop group Die Puhdys are piped out across a small crowd of mostly grey-haired holidaymakers, gathered around the stands selling smoked fish near the beach.
The small resort of Glowe, on the Baltic island of Ruegen, is witness to one of the first rallies of the election campaign.
The sun is shining and the atmosphere is relaxed as Lothar Bisky, leader of the reformed communist party, the PDS, tells the crowd that "East Germany will have a voice again" (…) -
What Michael Moore (and the neocons) don’t know about Saudi Arabia
9 August 2005 par (Open-Publishing)
1 commentWhat Michael Moore (and the neocons) don’t know about Saudi Arabia The left and the right have both crudely demonized the desert kingdom. But the ascension of King Abdullah gives the U.S. a chance to solidify relations with this flawed but key ally.
By Juan Cole
Aug. 5, 2005 | The late King Fahd of Saudi Arabia, who died on Aug. 1, should have been nicknamed "King Blowback." Along with his ideological soul mate, Ronald Reagan, who shared his long twilight, Fahd played a key, if (…) -

7 August 2005 par (Open-Publishing)
4 commentsPHOENIX - Politicians who support issues like abortion and gay rights have been banned from speaking at Catholic churches in the Phoenix Diocese.
So far, Democratic Gov. Janet Napolitano has been the only one affected by the edict from Phoenix Bishop Thomas J. Olmsted.
Napolitano was forbidden to speak last year at a Catholic church in Scottsdale at an event opposing Proposition 200, a ballot measure that restricted the rights of undocumented immigrants. The event was moved to another (…) -
Some Reasons Why I Do Not Trust the DLC

by Mary MacElveen
To My Fellow Democrats,
In the piece below "Hillary Clinton: Democratic mediator?" which appeared in yesterday’s Newsday, bothered me for many reasons. Some points brought out within this piece add to my total distrust for the Democratic Leadership Council. Last week, I wrote an editorial for the LiberalPatriot.org called, "How Can There Be Unity in the Democratic Party When Liberals are Shunned?" If you have not read that piece, please visit the Liberal Patriot by (…) -
