Wars and conflicts International Governments USA

Yesterday the Neocon extremist , Sen . Rick Santorum (R-Pa), appeared before the floor of the United States Senate and proceeded to make quite the ass of himself .... Little Ricky , down 18 % points in his pathetic ’06 re-election bid , claimed tidings of great joy : WMD found in Iraq ! ..... The ’pro-life’ Senator failed to note the small detail that the miraculous discoveries' were , in point of fact , nothing more than the chemical   residue contained within  severley decayed artillery shells - dating back to the 1980's !....    Thesefinds’ have no military application whatsoever - unless perhaps the Iraqis were planning on throwing them at US Soldiers as they invaded that country in March of 2003 ...... The strident Roman Catholic zealot from Pennsylvania is desperate to validate his ardently pro-Iraq war stance ..... One is puzzled by the unctuous hypocricy exhibited by this soon-to-be ex-Senator .... He wants to preserve unborn life while at the same time evincing an extremely cavalier attitude regarding the sanctity of US and Iraqi lives thrown to the four winds by the torrent of lies spouted off by himself and his fellow neocon extremists ....... Santorum is not filled with sorrow over his enthusiastic backing of the Iraq war ..... Not in the least .... On to Iran, Syria, Lebanon - and later China and Russia ........ The small fact that the US can not subdue the devastated and plundered nation of Iraq doesn’t slow down the martial ardor of neocon extremists ......... Soon , Santorum will vanish into a well-earned political obscurity ...... Perhaps Opus Dei will welcome Rick into their bosom ........

  • Wasn’t the "poison" gas they supposedly found at least 15 years old? We know that there were WMD’s in Iraq because the US gave them to Saddam.

  • Santorum might as well have issued another ` newsflash’ : Old cannonball found at Gettysburg ..... He and his fellow morons at Fox News have made total fools of themselves ....

  • Bottom line - "No WMDs in Iraq" is A LIE.

  • A WMD is a weapon of mass destruction .... A pile of worthless goo (severely degraded sarin et.al ) encapsulated in a decayed 20 year old shell is an archeological discovery .... The `WMD’ Santorum is boasting of ceased to posess lethal properties well nigh 15 years ago ...... That’s the bottom line .......

    WMDs Found!

Readers representatives at newspapers around the country, including the Chronicle, have been getting inquiries about a supposed media blackout of assertions that the long sought after WMDs have indeed been found in Iraq.

"We have found weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, chemical weapons," Sen. Rick Santorum, R-Pa., proclaimed yesterday at a Washington press conference, where he was joined by Rep. Peter Hoekstra, R-Mich.,, chairman of the House intelligence committee.

500 of them, in fact, according to a declassified report cited by Santorum.

And, indeed, there has been very little reported on this astounding revelation. Nothing on AP that I could find, nor in the New York Times. The Washington Post carried a brief item. So did UPI.

Santorum declared, "This is an incredibly — in my mind — significant finding"

Others, however, beg to differ. They include "a senior Defense Department official who told Fox News, that the "chemical weapons in question were not in useable condition."

Actually, they were not really "weapons" at all, but mostly crates of old, long-abandoned shells containing a blistering agent that was no longer active — THE KIND THE BUSH ADMINISTRATION’S OWN IRAQ SURVEY GROUP HAD DISCOVERED AND DISMISSED IN ITS SEPTEMBER 2004 REPORT.

"NEITHER THE MILITARY NOR THE WHITE HOUSE NOR THE CIA CONSIDERED THE SHELLS TO BE EVIDENCE of what was alleged by the Bush administration to be a current Iraqi program to make chemical, biological and nuclear weapons," the Post reported yesterday.

Or as the Post’s Dana Priest described them more pithily in an online conversation today, "empty, old things that we were told about briefly before."

Sen. Santorum is 18-POINTS BEHIND HIS DEMOCRATIC OPPONENT in his quest for re-election in November, according to the latest opinion poll released yesterday.

Defense Department Disavows Santorum’s WMD Claims

Today, Sen. Rick Santorum (R-PA) and Rep. Peter Hoekstra (R-MI) held a press conference and announced “we have found weapons of mass destruction in Iraq.” Santorum and Hoekstra are hyping a document that describes degraded, pre-1991 munitions that were already acknowledged by the White House’s Iraq Survey Group and dismissed.

Fox News’ Jim Angle contacted the Defense Department who quickly disavowed Santorum and Hoekstra’s claims. A Defense Department official told Angle flatly that the munitions hyped by Santorum and Hoekstra are “not the WMD’s for which this country went to war.”

Fox’s Alan Colmes broke the news to Santorum. Watch it:

    Transcript:

COMBS: Congressman, Senator, it’s Alan Colmes. Senator, the Iraq Survey Group — let me go to the Duelfer Report — says that Iraq did not have the weapons our intelligence believed were there. And Jim Angle [who] reported this for Fox News quotes a defense official who says these were pre-1991 weapons that could not have been fired as designed because they already been degraded. And the official went on to say these are not the WMD’s this country and the rest of the world believed Iraq had and not the WMD’s for which this country went to war. So the chest beating at this Republicans are doing tonight thinking this is a justification is not confirmed by the defense department.

SANTORUM: I’d like to know who that is. The fact of the matter is, I’ll wait and see what the actual Defense Department formally says or more important what the administration formally says.

    • Rick the Ick Sanitorium is insane and he supports the Nazi Bu$hco without question, plus he is about to take a fall.... so no wonder he is willing to spread stupid disproved rumors about WMD that were found 4 years ago and were so old that the U.N. team did not bother to even count them as weapons because they were no longer viable....sarin gas degrades in a matter of weeks... and the chemical weapons we manufactured and gave to Saddam during the Iraq/Iran war were either used, destroyed before the Gulf war, or were so badly degraded that they did not pose a threat to anyone.... but keep trying there boy, Dick Chicanery and Ick Ricky Sanitorium would be proud of you, they have been trying to make this this story believable for 4 years now......

  • Get your facts straight. Sarin does not degrade after 15 or 20 years because it is not activated until it is mixed with a second agent. It isnt just artillery shells either, the US has found 500 plus canisters of Mustad gas as well. One of these days when the missing VX nerve agent shows up you people are going to get a clue just how serious this is. Finding these weapons shouldnt be political. Where do you people get that the US gave Saddam chemical weapons? It simply is not true. Back in the 80s te Department of Commerce did give Iraq some small pox for research and it was used to make weapons but thats the extent of it.

    • Google search Saddam and Donald Rumsfeld...you will find a mountain of documents about how the U.S.A. provided biological weapons to Saddam....also we gave them other weapons and lots of money to fight the war with our arch enemy of the day, the Iranians....it was in fact the British that supplied him with the chemical weapons....all of this is well documented.

The Regan administration, during the 80s, hid their support for Saddam, since it was not authorized by congress (like so much about the Regan foreign warmongering) they did this by calling it "agricultural" aid....you need to GET YOUR FACTS STRAIGHT. Also, you need to stop believeing one word from the Bu$hco, these people are, and have been since the Nixon administration (same players) just professional liars determined to control the world for the military industrial complex including the oil companies. With the CIA (daddy Bu$h’$ bunch) and the U.S. military, they will march around the world picking off each country, until they have a one world government of fascism.....while you are at it read the Project for the New American Century papers and be sure to look who signed it.

  • You left-wing neo-hippie piece of $#&@ why are you not accepting the truth and report your comments honestly? They had WMD’s (which by the way....you pot smoking clown, the Clinton administration also agrred) and shipped them to Syria before our invasion. Study the facts idiot, let the pot smoke clear and open your eyes.

    • Do you have any links to support your claim about weapons being shipped to Syria? That’s just neocon bullshit, isn’t it? It’s hard to believe that they could pull that off without our spy satelites picking something up,unless you are a "true believer" (i.e. mindless bush supporter.) It’s not as if their entire WMD program would fit on a couple of trucks. Anyway, post the links, I’d be most interested to "study the facts."

    • That’s crap....Sanitorium is a liar. Who would believe anything that the Bu$h supporters say....they get their news from Bill O’Lielly.
