A soldier is hunkered down behind a shell pocked wall in Ramadi. He is shaking and obviously disturbed. He has a .45 pressed against his forehead.

His C.O. approaches him. "What are you doing?", he asks with deep concern.
"I’m going to end it" replies the soldier, "I can’t take it anymore!"

The C.O. puts his arm around the young private and says: "Have you forgotten why we’re here? We came deceived by lies, to launch an illegal war, to rape and pillage, torture and steal. We came to liberate the people and to force our concept of democracy on a totally different culture. We violated all the Geneva conventions by using depleted uranium shells, white phosphor and cluster bombs. We’ve killed or caused the deaths of an estimated 200,000 Iraqi innocents, bombed hospitals,schools, water and electric plants, and have devastated most cities to the point where rebuilding is literally impossible. We’ve also allowed Halliburton and other contractors to rob the U.S.taxpayer with impunity. Now are those reasons enough to commit suicide?"

The soldier slowly rises and says with a toothy grin "Hell no!..what was I thinking?"

  • Veterans who read this know better. Veterans are not ordinary people. Once that you enter the service, anywhere, you have left behind the civilian world forever. This article might please those who protest and other factions of society and any port in a storm is the best that can be said for that idea. However, no veteran will read this and agree. War is not made by soldiers, they just fight them and come away totally changed. What is truly suicidal is remaining in the United States. There should be a mass migration out.

    • No offense was intended. I honor the troops,especially those who learn the truth and tell the world. Suicide is NOT a joke, it is a tragedy which has been exacerbated by the Bush war idiocy. I agree fully about mass migration from the US!...villy

    • Bad idea guys. Where would you go? The world is not waiting for you to come, it is waiting for you to do something about it. It is your country, do you just want to give it up to bunch of creeps who are scaring the whole world, not just you? Please keep your country, but take it back and stop this madness. Please.
