U.S. Says Airstrike on Iraq House Kills 5

By NICK WADHAMS, Associated Press Writer
BAGHDAD, Iraq - The United States military acknowledged dropping a 500-pound bomb on the wrong house outside the northern city of Mosul on Saturday, killing five people. But the man who owned the house said the bomb killed 14 people - including seven children.

The strike in the town of Aitha, 30 miles south of Mosul, came hours before a senior U.S. Embassy official in Iraq met with leading members of the Sunni Arab community in efforts to persuade them to participate in Jan. 30 elections, which they have threatened to boycott. Violence also continued, with at least eight Iraqis killed.
American officials repeatedly have insisted the vote go ahead, but it is an extremely delicate time, with Iraq’s government perceived by many as closely tied to the U.S.-led coalition.
Late Saturday, a U.S. military statement said an F-16 jet dropped a 500-pound GPS-guided bomb on a house that was meant to be searched during an operation to capture "an anti-Iraqi force cell leader."
"The house was not the intended target for the airstrike. The intended target was another location nearby," the military said in a statement.
The homeowner, Ali Yousef, told Associated Press Television News that the airstrike happened at about 2:30 a.m., and American troops immediately surrounded the area, blocking access for four hours. The brick house was reduced to a pile of rubble, according to an Associated Press photographer at the scene.
An Associated Press photographer said from the scene that 14 members of the same family - seven children, four women and three men - were killed, and six people were wounded, including another child.

Sickening, but probably true! Dose ANYONE really believe the casualty numbers given to us by the same gang who stole 2 elections,& lied to take us to war. For a few weeks whenever a Humvee was hit they reported 1 dead, 2 wounded ( the same #’s were given each day), they don’t feel any need to tell the truth.
You remember Baghdad Bob... Rummy took lessons from him. All is well, elections in 3 weeks, no problems!!
How many hundreds of thousands of Iraquis have to be murdered before the world demands an end to this illegal War???
How can US citizens be so saddened by the death toll of a Natural Disaster, the Tsunami, and not care of the thousands of murders under the direction of our fearless commander in Chief.
STOP THE KILLING!!!

I agree with you 100%
There is a sickness in the psyche brought upon by the illusion of living in worlds of plastic video tape run endlessly on televisions.
The fact that AP lied in their headline to cover up the atrocity is perhaps not new. Most likely it has been done so many time before but we were not aware.
That the media is as guilty a party as the government in their desire to create illusion as fact becomes increasingly more obvious.
Somewhere in this mix are reporters and editors who will have to acknowledge they do have a conscience, and will in their ways act.
It is up to each of us one on one to see that others around us are made aware.
That we can do, and perhaps that will be enough.
The world moves at its own pace, and if it is five years, or ten, or fifteen, those who seek to further their illusion at the sake of truth, will fail.
There are just too many of us who will grow up and seek more.

The same number that saddem butchered, slaughtered and gased. Maybe you can find your way over there. What truly saddens Americans is the unwillingness of the people of iraq to rid their country of the terrorists from iran and syria.

Today it was in the news how much an Iraqi life counts. Those sergant who gave the order
to threw two Iraqi men into the river Tigris and this killed one of these men, was sentenced
for 6 month prision only. An American citizen committing the same type of crime could
possible face death penalty.
The same just Government opened the door to a war inside Syria by posting own trained
special forces to conduct attrocities.
The United States is a terrorist country by itself and therefore should no longer be
protected by any kind of international law.

World opinion, concerning the the united states must surely be that if right now every single american soldier, sailor and especially the pilots, male and female, were to be shot, strangled or simply fed into a shredding machine and their remains dumped in the desert, then no-one would care.
In fact most of the world would rejoice.
The american politicians have sent their troops to Iraq. These troops, the majority, seem to enjoy killing, that`s why they joined up, and the fact that they are too stupid to see that bush and the pentagon have lied to them. It is time for these troops to turn on their generals, and turn on their government. No-one else in this world can do it.

I hope there are SOME reporters with a conscience but I fear they are the ones that are resigning in droves.
The MEDIA is in control of this Country. This Administration can do ANYTHING and if the media doesn’t cover it nobody knows. For example they can steal their second election, force recounts, hearings, lawsuits, and a Historic Congressional challenge of electors on Jan. 6 ( with a rally of at least 1,000 people outside congress), and none of it is reported. Instead they feel that the Ukraine, a Tsunami that happened 2 weeks earlier, and Andrea Yates murder trial are more important.
The Media doesn’t report the news, they MAKE the news!
Join me and boycott Fox, CNN, MSNBC, and the other newschannels. We have to fight back!
