By now we have all seen the analogies drawn between the present war in Iraq and the war in Vietnam decades ago. Some of these analogies have been insightful. Some, to put it charitably, have not. Nearly all, however, have focused on how the United States entered and fought both wars. Little attention has been heeded to what the Vietnam war might tell us about the United States getting out (…)

Would President Bush go to war to stop Tehran from getting the bomb?
The Bush Administration, while publicly advocating diplomacy in order to stop Iran from pursuing a nuclear weapon, has increased clandestine activities inside Iran and intensified planning for a possible major air attack. Current and former American military and intelligence officials said that Air Force planning groups are drawing up lists of targets, and teams of American combat troops have been (…) -

Two senior military officers are known to have challenged Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld on the planning of the Iraq war. Army General Eric Shinseki publicly dissented and found himself marginalized. Marine Lieut. General Greg Newbold, the Pentagon’s top operations officer, voiced his objections internally and then retired, in part out of opposition to the war. Here, for the first time, Newbold goes public with a full-throated critique:

SAS soldier quits Army in disgust at ’illegal’ U.S. tactics in Iraq By Sean Rayment, Defence Correspondent (Filed: 12/03/2006)
An SAS soldier has refused to fight in Iraq and has left the Army over the "illegal" tactics of United States troops and the policies of coalition forces.
After three months in Baghdad, Ben Griffin told his commander that he was no longer prepared to fight alongside American forces.
Ben Griffin told commanders that he thought the Iraq war was illegal

Tribute to a National Hero

RAF Flight Lieutenant Malcolm Kendall-Smith, having refused to serve in Iraq in what he correctly believes is an occupation brought about by an illegal war, is predictably given an 8-month prison sentence, fined £20,000 costs and dismissed from his job. Kendall-Smith, now a national hero, follows in the steps of Ben Griffin who resigned from the Army SAS in a similar protest.
Despite all the pompous huffing and puffing from a few military wallahs rolled-out for the occasion the fact (…) -
The war WITHOUT Rumsfeld?

3 commentsEveryone wants Rummy to go and I fully support that. His arrogance and faulty planning have cost the US and Iraq many problems that might have been ameliorated had recommended better planning been heeded and implemented.
But we are where we are. Of course we were wrong to begin with, and have no business invading and "liberating" a country which proposed no real threat to us. The question now is, would we have had more success if we had gone in with twice the troop force initially? and (…) -

But what about a new dopey scenario, not invented in Hollywood? BUSH vs. AHMADENIJAD?
For the first time in history the outdated End Times script is being dusted off by BOTH sides of the international political spectrum, giving rise to possible self fullfillment of an event not only predicted in the Bible but in Islamic text!
