Washington - A bipartisan group of lawmakers called on Thursday on US President George W Bush to set a plan for the US withdrawal from Iraq, and said they would introduce legislation requiring him to do so.
The two Democrats and two Republicans, including two former presidential candidates, said they expect a cool reception to their proposal from leaders in the US Congress, but are counting on spurring public debate on US goals in Iraq.

Dear Fellow Eastern North Carolinian,
In recent days there has been considerable press coverage on my position on America’s presence in Iraq. Despite what some media accounts have said, I want to make it crystal clear that I am NOT in favor of any immediate withdrawal nor do I support setting an end date at which time all troops must be out of Iraq.
What I do support is a public discussion of our goals and the future of our military involvement in that country. The (…) -

5 commentsThere’s allot of imagination being used in this speech, too bad he failed to read his own words and warnings huh? Too bad that nobody could have imagined it. Is it inconceivable that they would "fix" the intelligence to distract people from their gross negligence and incompetence on S11 to engage in an unprovoked war because they failed to heed their own warnings? As some of you know, someone close to me is involved in the Libertarian Party. As such is the case, I get to hear quite a bit about them.
While we differ in opinion and belief on many issues with regard to economic justice, environmental policy, or any expansion of government services or regulation, there are a few very critical issues the the LP agrees whole-heartedly with we Progressives on:
1. The need for (…) -
Twelve Year Old: Why are they recruiting at our Middle School?

7 commentsLast Friday, June 10, I entered the cafeteria in FHT Middle School in South Burlington, VT only to be greeted by a strange sight. A large screen had been set up on the stage, and adults were milling around and passing out flyers.
I glanced down at a flyer on the nearest table, and was indignant to find that this invasion of my middle schools cafeteria had been orchestrated by none other than the Police and the Vermont National Guard.
The point of the presentation was to encourage middle (…) -
Enabling Evil

4 commentsIn 1996, Daniel Jonah Goldhagen published Hitler’s Willing Executioners: Ordinary Germans and the Holocaust. His thesis is that the mass murder of Jews was not done on the quiet by a few Nazi fanatics. Instead, Goldhagen writes, by their complicity, ordinary Germans were willing participants in the slaughter.
In other words, the German people as a people were guilty as well, because they accepted and permitted the slaughter of an ethnic group.
Goldhagen’s thesis has had rough sledding. (…) -

9 commentsJudiciary GOP pulls the plug on Conyers ’forums’ By Albert Eisele and Jeff Dufour
If the Financial Services Committee is the best in the House when it comes to bipartisan comity, then the Judiciary Committee may well be the worst.
In December, ranking Democrat John Conyers (Mich.) began holding “forums” - gatherings with all the trappings of official hearings - after Chairman James Sensenbrenner (R-Wis.) refused to hold hearings on topics Conyers requested. The forums have been held in (…) -

The Israelis are reeling from the body blow delivered them by President Bush following his meeting with Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas. In one pronouncement, Bush totally scuttled all the hard-fought, blood-bought gains Israel has made in the three wars forced upon her.
All peace negotiations and concessions by Israel in the pursuit of peace with the Muslim Nations and Palestinians since 1949 have been rendered null and void.
President Bush’s (…)
