Karl Marx once wrote, "Hegel remarks somewhere that all great, world-historical facts and personages occur, as it were, twice. He has forgotten to add: the first time as tragedy, the second as farce.” He wrote these words in his opening paragraph of a study of the 1851 coup of Louis Bonaparte of France. The essence of the argument made by Marx is that although "Men make their own history, ... they do not make it as they please; they (…)

Remembering February 27
11 September 2008 par (Open-Publishing)
The day after Adolph Hitler became Chancellor of Germany his deputy and propaganda minister Joseph Goebbels wrote in his diary, “In conference with the Fuehrer we lay down the line for the fight against the red terror. For the moment we shall abstain from direct counter measures. The Bolshevik attempt at revolution must first burst into flame. At the proper moment we shall strike.”
The Bolshevik attempt at revolution must first burst into flame? What an ironic statement, burst into flame. (…) -

By Bill Van Auken 11 September 2008
Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama blasted as too little and too late the decision announced by President Bush Tuesday to withdraw 8,000 US troops from Iraq and divert combat units to Afghanistan.
Obama’s remarks came in response to Bush’s speech before a uniformed audience at the National Defense University in Washington. Bush hailed the “success” of the surge that he ordered at the beginning of 2007, sending an additional 30,000 US troops (…) -

8 September 2008 par (Open-Publishing)
Last week US Special Forces troops invaded Pakistan – these representing the FIRST Anglo troops operating in formerly British India since the fall of the British Empire in India in 1947. The British Raj was associated with 1.5 billion avoidable Indian deaths in the period 1757-1947 under genocidal British rule.
Is this US invasion of formerly British India the beginning of a new Anglo-imposed Indian Holocaust?
Last week, in addition to its bombing of Pakistan tribal areas, US troops (…) -

6 September 2008 par (Open-Publishing)
1 commentIn early May of 2006, the president of the United States, George W Bush, stated that the attacks on 11 September 2001 were the beginning of World War III. If 911 started World War III isn’t about time we found out which parties committed this crime, especially since Osama Bin Laden is NOT wanted by the FBI for 911.

AFGHANISTAN: THE ’GOOD’ WAR TURNS BAD
The situation in Afghanistan is reaching breaking point. Civilian and military casualties have risen sharply over the last few months. The death of another British soldier this week brings to 200 the number of foreign soldiers killed in Afghanistan this year.
The level of NATO bombing is up 40% on last year’s levels and the mainstream press here has had to start reporting on the innocent dead as a result. Two weeks ago a raid in (…) -

Events in Georgia have raised the terrifying prospect of big power confrontation between the US and Russia. NATO expansion was the prime cause of the crisis in the first place, disgracefully, the British Government’s response has stoked up more tension.

For the West, everything changed but stayed the same, hard-wired and in place. Things just lay dormant in the shadows during the Yeltsin years, certain to reemerge once a more resolute Russian leader took over. If not Vladimir Putin, someone else little different.
Russia is back, proud and reassertive, and not about to roll over for America. Especially in Eurasia. For Washington, it’s back to the future, the new Cold War, and reinventing the Evil Empire, but this time for (…)
