Who is Judy Miller? What is Amerithrax?

Judy Miller is the coauthor of a book on germ warfare and was the NY Times star investigative reporter for Weapons of Mass Destruction. She was jailed by Patrick Fitzgerald for not cooperating with the investigation of who leaked the identity of a CIA asset, investigating Weapons of Mass destruction. Amerithrax is the FBI name for the source of Anthrax that gripped the nation following the September 11, 2001 terrorist attack. The FBI concluded it was made in America hence the name Ameri(can)(An)thrax. When Judy Miller opened an envelope with white powder she screamed and became part of the Amerithrax story.

The history of Amerithrax is traced to Fort Detrick and their involvement with the inhalation form of the disease. There are three ways Anthrax is spread, digesting a contaminated animal, through a cut in the skin, and rarely from inhaling it. Amerithrax is referred to as inhalation Anthrax because it is so small it becomes airborne and is the most deadly of the three forms. Anthrax that is contracted through a cut in the skin is referred to as Cutaneous. The history of inhalation Anthrax in America begins with an outbreak in the Manchester Arms Mill in Manchester NH in 1957, that was monitored by Fort Detrick.

Fort Detrick had inoculated a control group in the Manchester Arms Mill because they sorted wool and goat hair for sweaters and garments. Anthrax was considered the ’wool sorters disease’ because anthrax contaminated wool was a known source of cutaneous Anthrax. Several weeks after the inoculation, Manchester NH became the site of the only known ’natural’ epidemic of inhalation anthrax and resulted in five deaths. The workers that died were not inoculated and later would form the basis of the Anthrax Vaccine’s human trial. Recently a DOD article counters safety concerns about Anthrax by referring to the Mill’s ’controlled human study’ without naming the Manchester Arms Mill by Name. A study on the source of the Amerithrax intentional epidemic in 2001 traces the source to a 1980 strain associated with Fort Detrick. The following is an excerpt from the technical study.

"Before B. anthracis was detected in the mail, we subtyped several isolates from cutaneous anthrax cases that occurred in the 1960s and 1970s in the eastern United States to determine if any were similar to the outbreak strain. Two isolates from Rhode Island were MLVA genotype 71, one New Hampshire isolate was genotype 78, while an additional New Hampshire isolate and a Massachusetts isolate each had unique combinations of alleles resulting in new genotypes. The pagA sequence of all five New England isolates was identified as PA genotype VI"

The study does not specify the inhalation anthrax known to occur in NH in the 50’s. In 1966 a worker in an adjacent mill building died of inhalation anthrax and the source was attributed to a common air duct the building shared with the Manchester Arms Mill. News paper articles were written claiming the Mill was destroyed in 1972, the building remained intact for many years. I grew up in Manchester and whenever I passed by the Mill I wondered when they would demolish it. If my memory serves me well it was not until around 1980 that the building was decontaminated and destroyed. I was walking over the Bridge street bridge, just above the roof line of the Mill and I saw persons in special body suits exiting the building. My thought at the time was that ten years had passed since the Union Leader ( William Loeb paper) had written a premature story about the building’s destruction. As recently as last year, workers digging alongside the Singer ballpark in Mancheatser accidentaly unearthed remnants of the mill and it tested positive for anthrax.

In 1979 the Russians had an Anthrax program that went bad contaminating 79 people with an aerosol form of inhalation anthrax. The American intelligence agencies got wind of this in 1980 and would account for Fort Detrick’s sudden need for samples of the deadly inhalation strain that the FBI cites as the source of Amerithrax. The Ames strain that is so often cited by the FBI for the Amerithrax source was from a cow injected in 1980 with anthrax in Texas and ultimately associated with Fort Detrick. One final note on the 1957 outbreak and the inoculation of Mill workers is that Fort Detrick inoculated four other mills in the East coast but those workers were exposed to cutaneous anthrax not the inhalation form. The Amerithrax of 2001 is considered an intentional epidemic as was the Russian outbreak leaving the Manchester Arms Mill with the distinction of being the only known natural epidemic of inhalation anthrax.

The political climate in New Hampshire in 1980 was highlighted by Reagan’s campaign Manager in NH, Max Hugel, who was given the post of head of CIA secret operations in 1981 when Reagan became President. Hugel was plagued by allegations of corruption by his business partners and was forced to resign after less than a year on the job. Hugel’s company in Nashua NH made printers and devices for casino gambling. When Hugel returned to NH he became co owner of the Rockingham race track.

"When Mr. Casey named Mr. Hugel Deputy Director for Operations, making him responsible for managing clandestine and covert operations, it appeared to some officials that the political contamination had spread to the agency’s uppermost sanctum."From NY Times, July 19, 1981 By Phillip Taubman

Later Hugel lobbied with Senator Laxalt of Nevada for the release of the Korean ’religous’ leader Sun myung Moon from federal prison. Hugel and Moon shared the dubious distinction of having separate Congressional investigations stating that each were a potential danger to National security. In 1986 Hugel teamed up with rockabilly legend Jerry Naylor, the following is from a jerry Naylor web site

"In 1986, Jerry Naylor merged his company with Newslink Satellite Broadcast Communications Company, Inc. in Washington DC, and Jerry became Co-Chairman/CEO of the partnership with Max Hugel, the former founder/CEO of the major multi-national corporation, Brother International. Through Newslink, Jerry Naylor and Max Hugel purchased all of the satellite up-link and video production facilities in Washington, DC and within two years 51% of the new company was sold to the Washington Timers News Group/Atlantic Video"

The Washington Times is funded by Sun Myung Moon.

Jerry Naylor replaced Buddy Holly after Buddy was killed in a plane crash and Jerry became lead singer for the Crickets. Naylor was a regular at the Sahara casino in Nevada. Jerry was also a campaign activist in Reagan’s 1980 campaign and was given a post with the Labor dept. Jerry like Hugel was part of the casino scene. The godfather or creator of the Casino lounge entertainment industry was none other than William Miller of the Riviera and later in 1955 the Sahara. William was Judy Miller’s father and the halo that followed her, being the daughter of the original Rat Pack promoter, that included Frank Sinatra, was an asset for opening secret sources for her journalism career.

Judy Miller is blessed with secret sources for her WMD stories, the point is she had the social stature from her father to open doors, the trusted daughter of William Miller. The fact that Judy Miller is part of the Amerithrax story may be just a coincidence but the Amerithrax outbreak had a critical part in raising Americas awareness of a Germ attack. A scenario that Max Hugel, at the very least, would have been aware of from his 1981 stint as head of covert secret operations. The Amerithrax outbreak also served to benefit BioPort the private financial company producing the Anthrax Vaccine, that was proven effective in the 1957 Manchester Arms Mill outbreak. Not to mention, Amerithrax, presented another reason to invade Iraq and pass the patriot act.

The perpetrators of the Anthrax scare had an agenda, in hindsight, knowing now what we know of Judy Millers background and the forged Niger documents, they were on the same page. It was to alarm the American public and prepare us for war. I do not suggest that Miller was privy to the Anthrax perpetrators but that they were privy to her and used her and others as a patsy. The anthrax letter writers were connected to the same agenda as the forged document writers and rouge elements of the intelligence agencies, may be in a position to shed light.
