Xenomentalists: Why soldiers continue the fight in Iraq

Many wonder why so many U.S.soldiers continue to tell the Press that "we must continue fighting as long as it takes, and we’ll eventually win".

The answer has a lot to do with what we "are" as citizens of the US of A.

I think there are three distinct reasons why it’s easy to persuade US troops to continue "the good fight" in Iraq.

1. Xenophobia. Many ignorant (read: ill educated) young Americans have a basic distrust,even hatred, of anyone who isn’t Christian, has dark skin, wears "funny" cloting or who hails from some "other" country.

2. Religious Fundamentalism. Many soldiers hail from extreme Right Wing fundamentalist/Evengelical families and traditions. Often they believe that it’s "our duty" to destroy the "heathens" who, they often surmise, fight on the Devil’s side. With this paradigm they find it no problem to swallow the Bush propaganda hook, line and sinker and continue the battle to...they hope...and ultimate victory.

3.Love of violence. Sometimes I think it’s inherently a part of the American psyche, perhaps based on our cinema or video games, that American youth embrace the concept of extreme violence as personal entertainment.

The bottom line is, can more rational, more reasonable, more logical and more intelligent minds prevail, and persuade these young US soldiers to rethink their basic attitudes regarding the "war"?

Time will tell. At least that’s what "they" say.

  • The other reason which you never mentioned is maybe that thay are defending the others in the world who aren’t muslim from the crazies in the world who just happen to be muslim be it wherever islam touches another region there is violence , in Thailand (you can’t get much more peaceful than a Buddhist monk , yet they cut off their heads too), India , Israel, Phillipines , Nigeria , Sudan, being from the UK I am proud of all the soldiers in all the forces who are keeping us safer at home.

    • There are plenty of soldiers throughout the world who ARE protecting the interests of their respective countries. I honor their loyalty and their dedication and skill.

      But in the US, in particular, the reasons I’ve stated seem to be predominate. That and a false sort of "patriotism" generated by the MSM...who basically support corporations, many of whom are an integral part of the military industrial complex.

      Lastly, I would suggest that soldiers fighting or stationed in a foreign land DO NOT keep you safe at home. The police and the National Guard (Home Guard?) Airforce,etc....do that.

    • Last time I checked no chlorine bombs where being made on my street, you see U.S. soldiers are keeping us safe at home because the fight is not on American soil. You question the resolve of the American soldier and where he derives his motivation. Lets get to the root of the problem that started this ordeal, why is it so easy to brainwash Islam into terrorists, where do they get there motivation and false sense of logic.
      1. A book that is read out of context and the meanings changed in order to claim religion is on your side
      2.Living there life in poverty and under dictatorships thinking its the only way out.
      3. Having this cult stuff its ideas down your throught since youth, and if you dont except your killed.
      If you do not understand why the American soldier wont quit, then you dont understand what it is to be an American, i cant explain the taste of sugar but if you never tasted it take my word there is nothing like it anywhere.

    • I support the decisions of those who signed up to try and DEFEND their country, but they —and many of them KNOW this now—were sent to the Middle East based on LIES it had NOTHING to do with Saddam being any REAL threat, and ALL to do with ECONOMIC and POLITICAL reasons to secure bases, and OIL, and to try and slow the death of the dollar and return Iraq back to the dollar away from the Euro.And for ZIONISM. IMO it is BS to try and lamely claim this has ANYTHING to do with promoting "freedom" and "democracy" those LIES are an INSULT to the brains of most of our servicemen and women. Let’s get REAL and call these "wars" what they are simply for The Elitists— like a pack of wild dogs fighting over the food bowl and who will get to eat all the food. And whose families will have to pay for the excesses of those who love MONEY and POWER over all, even over the lives of their fellow countrymen.

  • The main reason to justify the continuance the war is the old "if the war is wrong then the ones who have already died,DIED IN VAIN....Then this could lead to deeper reflection on how many prior wars were fought for immoral reasons....CAN’T HAVE THAT NOW CAN WE???

  • Good points. Some of these other posts, the keeping America safe from EEEVIL Arabs are disingenuous at best, ignorant at worst. I would add a few things. Most people join the military because they have no other choice due to the state of the economy in the US. Therefore we get shall we say less than desirable individuals in our military. Those who love to kill and maime and steal etc.
    Is anybody here aware that the US military is 20% illegal aliens?! They’re being encouraged to join our military in return for a promise of citizenship. Check it out. The aliens who would do this are probably the violent variety with predictable results, I wonder how much of the slaughter of Iraqi civilians, rape and murder etc they’re responsible for?
    So in closing, our military is composed by a large percent of the scum of the earth, you get what you pay for. 72% of the military are in favor of leaving Iraq. The situation is completely untenable and needs to go away now.

    The real terrorists are here and the sooner we put John Wayne away and stop pretending the better off we’ll be, because I firmly believe that Iraq has been a Beta test for what is going to happen to us. This military will be unleashed on us, with all this spiffy "training" under their belts, and we will be treated just like the civilians of Iraq! Don’t forget the dozens of guillotine equipped concentration camps throughout the US. They weren’t built for nothing.
