Numerose le adesioni all’appello per Bellaciao presentato all’Assemblea preparatoria del Social Forum Europeo svoltasi a Francoforte dal 3 al 5 Novembre 2006

PIRATERIA DEI TEMPI MODERNI:
salviamo il sito del Collettivo Bellaciao!

Roberto Ferrario, uno dei membri fondatori del sito www.bellaciao.org sito del Collettivo Bellaciao*, é stato rinviato a giudizio, considerato arbitrariamente come responsabile della diffusione di un comunicato stampa dell’organizzazione sindacale francese CGT.

Il comunicato, dell’USM-CGT del 16 settembre 2005, dal titolo "Pirateria dei tempi moderni", riguardava la protesta dei lavoratori polacchi dei Cantieri navali di St Nazaire (Francia) che si erano rivolti alla USM-CGT per denunciare la precarizzazione a cui erano costretti, i salari da fame con cui erano pagati, gli orari di lavoro inaccettabili e l’impossibilità di effettuare rivendicazioni pena il rimpatrio immediato.

Roberto Ferrario, del sito Bellaciao è stato rinviato a giudizio a seguito della pubblicazione del comunicato della CGT nel sito. I cantieri St Nazaire hanno sporto denuncia per diffamazione. Nella denuncia non vengono contestati i fatti, ma bensì il linguaggio usato nel comunicato dell’USM-CGT che denunciava il nuovo episodio di ‘schiavitù moderna’ e chiedeva di mettere fine al ‘banditismo padronale’.

Questa misura repressiva, esemplare di una volontà di controllo della parola su Internet è inconcepibile e una minaccia per la libertà di informazione. Il sito del Collettivo Bellaciao rischia di essere imbavagliato o addirittura chiuso per aver ripreso e diffuso un comunicato ufficiale di un’organizzazione sindacale. Quali saranno le conseguenze di un’eventuale condanna è facile capirlo. La libertà di pubblicazione verrà riservata solo a quegli organi di diffusione che siano in grado di affrontare le spese legali di eventuali denunce? Cosa ne sarebbe di tutte le voci libere che trovano su Internet uno spazio d’informazione non soggetto alla legge del più forte?

Un’eventuale condanna di Roberto Ferrario e l’oscuramento del sito Bellaciao creerebbe un inaccettabile precedente. Non possiamo permettere che questo succeda senza opporci con fermezza. Vi chiediamo pertanto di firmare la petizione che alleghiamo e di sostenere il Comitato per la Libertà d’Espressione (che ha già raccolto piu’ di 5.000 adesioni online) anche a nome della vostra organizzazione, per la libera circolazione delle idee e contro ogni tentativo di intimidazione.

* Il Collettivo Bellaciao è un insieme di collettivi italiani, uomini e donne, che per svariate ragioni, vivono all’estero e di militanti locali. let’s save the ‘Collettivo Bellaciao’ website

Roberto Ferrario, one of the founders members of the www.bellaciao.org website, site of the Bellaciao Collective*, has been committed to trial for publishing on the website a press-release made by the French trade union CGT.

The press-release by USM-CGT of the 16th of September 2005, by the title "Modern-day pirates", concerned the protest made by the Polish workers of the St Nazaire’s Shipyards (France) who had contacted the USM-CGT do denounce the precarity to which they were forced, the extremely low wages they were receiving, the unacceptable times they had to work and the impossibility to protest without being sent back home.
Roberto Ferrario, of the Bellaciao website has been committed to trial following the publishing on the website of the press-release by CGT.

The St Nazaire’s Shipyards have accused him and the site of diffamation. The facts are not denied, but the charges are about the language used in the CGT press-release and specifically the sentences ‘modern-day slavery’ and ‘owners’ banditism’.

Such repressive measures, proofs of a will to control the Internet and what is said in it, is inconceivable and a menace for free information. The Collettivo Bellaciao website runs the risk of being muffled or even shut down for divulgating an official press-release by a trade union. The consequences of a possible condemn are easy to guess. Will the freedom to publish material be reserved only to those sites that can face the legal expenses of eventual charges? What would be of all the free voices that find in the Internet a space for information not subject to the law of the fittest?

A condemn of Roberto Ferrario and the obscuring of the Bellaciao site would be an unacceptable precedent. We cannot allow this to happen without firm opposition. We therefore ask you to sign the petition which you’ll find enclosed and to support the Committee for Freedom of Expression (that has already collected more than 5.000 signatures online) also on behalf of your organisation, for the free circulation of ideas and against any attempt to intimidate.
