Bush and Blair Lie to the World again - Enough is Enough

by Open-Publishing - Thursday 9 June 2005

Wars and conflicts International USA UK

Yesterday, George Bush and Tony Blair LIED before the world again..Harry Truman once said of Richard Nixon, "He’s one of the few in the history of this country to run for high office talking out of both sides of his mouth at the same time and lying out of both sides", but if ever a description was to be applied to Bush and Blair, this would be it.

How long is this going to go on? How long are these two war criminals going to be allowed to LIE repeatedly to the world before anything is done...? How long is it before society steps in and says no more lies, no more deaths of US Troops or Iraqi citizens for lies, no more destruction of the constitution and Bill of Rights for lies? How long is it before we say collectively enough and prosecute these lying war criminals with the blood of brave US and Coalition Troops and Iraqi civilians on their hands? How long is it before the American people start listening to great thinkers like Louis D. Brandeis "Our government teaches the whole people by its example. If the government becomes the lawbreaker, it breeds contempt for law; it invites every man to become a law unto himself; it invites anarchy."

Enough, it is time to end this once and for all. Here is the overwhelming evidence that proves without any shadow of a doubt the validity of the Downing Street Document, here is the evidence that proves that Bush and Blair lied yesterday in their press conference.

The world waited to see of the media had the guts to bring up the Downing Street Document. Sure enough, on queue a reporter posed the following question....

Q Thank you, sir. On Iraq, the so-called Downing Street memo from July 2002 says intelligence and facts were being fixed around the policy of removing Saddam through military action. Is this an accurate reflection of what happened? Could both of you respond?

Tony Blair responded first....

PRIME MINISTER BLAIR: Well, I can respond to that very easily. No, the facts were not being fixed in any shape or form at all. And let me remind you that that memorandum was written before we then went to the United Nations. Now, no one knows more intimately the discussions that we were conducting as two countries at the time than me. And the fact is we decided to go to the United Nations and went through that process, which resulted in the November 2002 United Nations resolution, to give a final chance to Saddam Hussein to comply with international law. He didn’t do so. And that was the reason why we had to take military action.

But Mr Liar forgets he said the following prior to July 2002...Or as Abraham Lincoln once said " "No man has a good enough memory to be a successful liar."

LIE
"We know they are trying to accumulate weapons of mass destruction."- Tony Blair, 3 March 2002, Channel 9 News, Australia

LIE
"That there is a threat from Saddam Hussein and the weapons of mass destruction that he has acquired is not in doubt at all."- Tony Blair, 11 March 2002.

LIE
"We know that he [Saddam Hussein] has stockpiles of major amounts of chemical and biological weapons, we know that he is trying to acquire nuclear
capability, we know that he is trying to develop ballistic missile capability of a greater range."- Tony Blair, 3 April 2002, NBC news

LIE
"There is a reason why weapons inspectors went in there and that is because we know he has been developing these weapons. We know that those weapons constitute a threat."- Tony Blair, 6 April 2002.

LIE
"Saddam Hussein’s regime is despicable, he is developing weapons of mass destruction, and we cannot leave him doing so unchecked. He is a threat to his
own people and to the region and, if allowed to develop these weapons, a threat to us also."- Tony Blair, 10 April 2002, House of Common

LIE
"there is no doubt at all that the development of weapons of mass destruction by Saddam Hussein poses a severe threat not just to the region, but to the wider world.... He is a threat to his own people and to the region and, if allowed to develop these weapons, a threat to us also."- Tony Blair, 10 April 2002, House of Commons

Oh Tony...what a tangled web we weave. As for Dubya, well I am used to seeing that smirking idiot lie repeatedly, but for the record, here is his response...

And somebody said, well, you know, we had made up our mind to go to use military force to deal with Saddam. There’s nothing farther from the truth.
My conversation with the Prime Minister was, how could we do this peacefully, what could we do. And this meeting, evidently, that took place in London happened before we even went to the United Nations — or I went to the United Nations. And so it’s — look, both us of didn’t want to use our military. Nobody wants to commit military into combat. It’s the last option. The consequences of committing the military are — are very difficult. The hardest things I do as the President is to try to comfort families who’ve lost a loved one in combat. It’s the last option that the President must have — and it’s the last option I know my friend had, as well.

Ah George, you too are a LIAR...

You think we forget but the following are facts:

Truth - Colin Powell Says Iraq Is Contained

"I think we ought to declare [the containment policy] a success. We have kept him contained, kept him in his box. Saddam is unable to project conventional power against his neighbors" and that "he threatens not the United States." - Colin Powell - State Department, February 23 & 24 2001

Truth - Dick Cheney Says Iraq Is Contained

"Saddam Hussein is bottled up" - a confirmation of the intelligence he had received." - Dick Cheney - Meet the Press, September 16 2001

Truth - White House Creates Office To Circumvent Intelligence Agencies

The Pentagon creates the Office of Special Plans "in order to find evidence of what Wolfowitz and his boss, Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, believed to be true-that Saddam Hussein had close ties to Al Qaeda, and that Iraq had an enormous arsenal of chemical, biological, and possibly even nuclear weapons that threatened the region and, potentially, the United States...The rising influence of the Office of Special Plans was accompanied by a decline in the influence of the C.I.A. and the D.I.A. bringing about a crucial change of direction in the American intelligence community." The office, hand-picked by the Administration, specifically "cherry-picked intelligence that supported its pre-existing position and ignoring all the rest" while officials deliberately "bypassed the government’s customary procedures for vetting intelligence." - New Yorker, 12 May 2003.

Truth - Tenet Does Not Even Mention Iraq In Nuclear Threat Report

"In CIA Director George Tenet’s January 2002 review of global weapons-technology proliferation, he did not even mention a nuclear threat from Iraq, though he did warn of one from North Korea." - The New Republic, June 30 2003

Truth - CIA Says Iraq Has Not Provided WMDS To Terrorists

"The Central Intelligence Agency has no evidence that Iraq has engaged in terrorist operations against the United States in nearly a decade, and the agency is also convinced that President Saddam Hussein has not provided chemical or biological weapons to Al Qaeda or related terrorist groups, according to several American intelligence officials." NY Times, February 6 2002

Truth - Wolofowitz Angered At CIA For Not Undermining UN Report.

After receiving a CIA report that concluded that Hans Blix had conducted inspections of Iraq’s declared nuclear power plants "fully within the parameters he could operate" when Blix was head of the international agency responsible for these inspections prior to the Gulf War, a report indicated that "Wolfowitz ‘hit the ceiling’ because the CIA failed to provide sufficient ammunition to undermine Blix and, by association, the new U.N. weapons inspection program." Wahsington Post, April 15 2002.

So In view of the above, how can you stand on National Television and announce to a global audience that the intelligence was not made to fix the fact when you and your administration said the following during 2002, totally countering the above.

LIE
"iraq continues to flaunt its hostility toward America and to support terror. The Iraqi regime has plotted to develop anthrax, and nerve gas, and nuclear weapons for over a decade" - George Bush, State of the Union Address, Jan. 29, 2002

LIE
They have weaponized chemical weapons, we know that. They’ve had an active program to develop nuclear weapons.- Donald Rumsfeld, Press conference, Kuwait City, June 11, 2002

LIE
"Iraq is busy enhancing its capabilities in the field of chemical and biological agents, and they continue to pursue an aggressive nuclear weapons program. These are offensive weapons for the purpose of inflicting death on a massive scale, developed so that Saddam Hussein can hold the threat over the head of any one he chooses. What we must not do in the face of this mortal threat is to give in to wishful thinking or to willful blindness."- Dick Cheney, August 29 2002

LIE
"Some have argued that the nuclear threat from Iraq is not imminent - that Saddam is at least 5-7 years away from having nuclear weapons. I would not be so certain. And we should be just as concerned about the immediate threat from biological weapons. Iraq has these weapons."- Donald Rumsfeld, September 18 2002

LIE
"No terrorist state poses a greater or more immediate threat to the security of our people and the stability of the world than the regime of Saddam Hussein in Iraq."
Donald Rumsfeld, September 19 2002

LIE
"There clearly are contacts between al-Qaeda and Iraq that can be documented; there clearly is testimony that some of the contacts have been important contacts and that there’s a relationship here. ... And there are some al-Qaeda personnel who found refuge in Baghdad." - Condleeza Rice, September 25 2002

LIE
"This man poses a much graver threat than anybody could have possibly imagined." - George Bush, September 26 2002

LIE
"We know that Iraq and the al-Qaeda terrorist network share a common enemy - the United States of America. We know that Iraq and al-Qaeda have had high-level contacts that go back a decade" and "we’ve learned that Iraq has trained al-Qaeda members in bomb-making and poisons and deadly gases." - George Bush, October 7 2002:

LIE
"The world is also uniting to answer the unique and urgent threat posed by Iraq whose dictator has already used weapons of mass destruction to kill thousands."
 George Bush, November 23 2002

LIE
"I would look you in the eye and I would say, go back before September 11 and ask yourself this question: Was the attack that took place on September 11 an imminent threat the month before or two months before or three months before or six months before? When did the attack on September 11 become an imminent threat? Now, transport yourself forward a year, two years or a week or a month...So the question is, when is it such an immediate threat that you must do something?" - Donald Rumsfeld, November 14 2002

LIE
"The Iraqi regime is a threat of unique urgency." - George Bush, October 2 2002

LIE
"There’s a grave threat in Iraq. There just is." - George Bush, October 2 2002

LIE
"The Iraqi regime is a serious and growing threat to peace." - George Bush, October 16 2002

LIE
"There are many dangers in the world, the threat from Iraq stands alone because it gathers the most serious dangers of our age in one place. Iraq could decide on any given day to provide a biological or chemical weapon to a terrorist group or individual terrorists." - George Bush, October 7 2002

LIE
"There is real threat, in my judgment, a real and dangerous threat to American in Iraq in the form of Saddam Hussein." - George Bush, October 28 2002

LIE
"I see a significant threat to the security of the United States in Iraq." - George Bush, November 1 2002

LIE
"Saddam Hussein is a threat to America." - George Bush, November 3 2002

Perhaps the most damning proof of the authenticity of the Downing Street Document is the following, much forgotten report by the New York Times from 28 April 2002. NY Times Leaks Plans : http://www.nytimes.com/

WASHINGTON, 27 April - The Bush administration, in developing a potential approach for toppling President Saddam Hussein of Iraq, is concentrating its attention on a major air campaign and ground invasion, with initial estimates contemplating the use of 70,000 to 250,000 troops. The administration is turning to that approach after concluding that a coup in Iraq would be unlikely to succeed and that a proxy battle using local forces there would be insufficient to bring a change in power.

But senior officials now acknowledge that any offensive would probably be delayed until early next year, allowing time to create the right military, economic and diplomatic conditions. These include avoiding summer combat in bulky chemical suits, preparing for a global oil price shock, and waiting until there is progress toward ending the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Come on, how difficult is this? They lied, they continue to lie and US troops continue to die. Iraqi civilians continue to die. Am I missing something here? In the words of Jim Morrison in Miami in 1969, "What are you going to do about it? What are you going to do about it? What are you going to do about it?"

I leave you with the words of Ralph Waldo Emerson "Every violation of truth is not only a sort of suicide in the liar, but is a stab at the health of human society."

Peace
