Misses and Miracles
We still have so many great things happening at Camp Casey. In spite of all the smears and lies, people are still coming.
The most amazing thing today was learning that Camp Caseys are opening and spreading all over the country. They have been set up in Boston, Portland, Seattle, and elsewhere. If you can’t make it to Camp Casey, set up your own version. Camp Caseys are amazing places full of love and hope. I am so gratified that the movement is spreading.

Reality Hits Camp Casey
The last 10 minutes have been very difficult here. I am at the Peace House editing video. First came a phone call that someone drove their vehicle over the Arlington West Crosses at the camp. I will head out to the camp now to get more details.
Within minutes one of the volunteers logged on to a website and learned that her friend was killed in Iraq. She burst into tears, Cindy was sitting across the room and (…) -
A Sunday Drive to Crawford

The trek began early Sunday morning - a decision to drive 181 miles to support Cindy Sheehan, a courageous mother who lost her son in the Iraq War. She has taken a stand against the war, and against those who lied to justify the war, right outside the gates of George Bush’s ranch. She’s camped out in a ditch, literally, waiting for the President to speak with her. Waiting for him to take 10 minutes and answer her questions.
So there we were - two cars, two adults, 3 kids (…) -

Activists Protest the War, Or Protest the Protesters
By Michael A. Fletcher
CRAWFORD, Tex., Aug. 13 — Barbara Cummings was home in San Diego Monday, listening to an Air America radio broadcast, when she heard the tale of a woman who was coming here to join Cindy Sheehan in her growing protest against the war in Iraq.
The woman on the radio had a son who had signed on for a second tour of duty in the Army after losing his job. In two weeks, he is scheduled to ship out to Iraq. Cummings (…) -
A shot in the arm for protesters : Mother’s vigil raises hope that anti-war sentiment will fuel a national momentum

Crawford, Texas — Asking whether she was "The New Face of Protest?" the liberal political magazine the Nation ran a photo in March of a middle-aged woman holding a picture of her 24-year-old son.
The answer from anti-war organizations as international media have spread the story of Cindy Sheehan, whose son Casey died last year in Iraq, is a resounding Yes. The anti-war movement has eagerly grabbed the coattails of the 48-year-old Vacaville mom tented up in a drainage (…) -

2 commentsThe situation in Crawford this month could be thew difference between World War III or not. Do whatever you can to support the cause of the Veterans for Peace and Goldstar Mothers, etc. Go visit, send money, tell all your friends. I’ve read they are trying to organize a Woodstock 2005 for the"mother of all vacations" in Crawford this August. This song is dedicated to all true patriots doing whatever they can. Start singing everybody

STUTTGART, Germany - Three anti-war protesters, including a 70-year-old woman, turned themselves in to police on Tuesday after they cut a large hole in the fence at Patch Barracks, walked onto the base, hung a banner, and weren’t challenged by anyone.
The three Germans, the woman and two men ages 51 and 22, were apparently surprised they weren’t arrested after breaking onto the base at about 11:30 a.m. So they walked through the base and out the main gate, where they (…) -
Teacher Unions Join Boycott of Wal-Mart

The two largest U.S. teacher unions joined a "back-to-school" boycott against Wal-Mart Stores Inc., targeting one of the year’s busiest shopping seasons to protest the retailer’s labor practices.
The 2.7-million-member National Education Assn., the biggest U.S. union, and the 1.3-million-member American Federation of Teachers are teaming with the United Food and Commercial Workers in urging shoppers to buy school supplies elsewhere, the UFCW’s Wake-Up (…) -
Camp Casey protest grows to 705! Rumors of pending arrests false

The sun is finally beginning to set behind a small line of trees, and the crowd has begun to thin out. The official count for today’s gathering was 705, not counting press. Given the fact that we are in a drainage ditch by the side of the road in the middle of nowhere, that is a great number.
It will grow tomorrow again.

1 commentFrom Tom Baldwin in Crawford, Texas
GEORGE BUSH loves his Prarie Chapel Ranch in Crawford so much that he has spent almost one fifth of his presidency “taking the pulse of the heartlands” in this big-buckled, open - if not red - necked, beef-eating corner of Texas.
He knows this enthusiasm is not shared by everyone but apparently delights in forcing aides, journalists and, yesterday, even Dick Cheney, Condoleezza Rice and Donald Rumsfeld, to do a stint of ranch duty. “I just checked in (…)
