WASHINGTON - It’s time for the Democratic Party to take a courageous stand and call for the withdrawal of troops from the senseless war in Iraq.
Its human cost and the billion-dollar a week tab in Iraq should give all Americans pause.
Would the Republicans have hesitated to challenge the Democrats if the shoe was on the other foot? Did the opposition party give former President Bill Clinton any slack while he was in office?
What is the logic of Sens. Hillary Clinton, (…)

August 26, 2005-Although the revelation received predictably little attention in America’s corporate media on May 1, the Times of London reported on a top secret internal British government memo that proves that George W. Bush was lying through his teeth when he took this nation to war in Iraq.
The leaked memo is now known as the "Downing Street Memo," referring to the prime minister’s residence. Its authenticity has not been (…) -
BLOGGER COMMENTS ON BUSH LEADERSHIP

Conservative rage was apparent in blog comments on criticism of George Bush and his failure as a president in both peace and war. The anti-war movement, which is barely mentioned in the media, is gaining momentum. Some commentators wondered if public acceptance of Bush’s reasons for going to war would lead to his impeachment. A number of blogs mention that the Iraq quagmire is fast approaching that of Vietnam. Most blogs show a certain vehemence and very strong unwavering (…) -
Good Things Happening in Venezuela

Even before I arrived in Venezuela for a recent visit, I encountered the great class divide that besets that country. On my connecting flight from Miami to Caracas, I found myself seated next to an attractive, exquisitely dressed Venezuelan woman. Judging from her prosperous aspect, I anticipated that she would take the first opportunity to hold forth against President Hugo Chavez.
Unfortunately, I was right.
Our conversation moved along famously until we got to the (…) -

Reported on Wednesday, August 24, by a meager number of media outlets (a search on Google News produced all of ONE result, this, from Political Affairs Magazine) Congressman Jim Leach (R) of Iowa has become the first Republican to publicly announce that he would cosponsor the bill (H. Res. 375) by representative Barbara Lee (D) of California.
The bill, a resolution of inquiry, introduced by Lee in the House of Representatives on July 20, 2005 and referred to the Committee on (…) -

Political cartoonists are not much different from comic strip cartoonists; both draw an ongoing daily soap opera featuring a regular cast of characters. While comic strip cartoonists invent their own characters, the political cartoonist’s characters are given to him by events (…) -

For BBC Television and the Guardian newspapers of Britain, Greg Palast has conducted two award-winning investigations of both Pat Robertson and Hugo Chavez, President of Venezuela. Bush’s Obscene Tirades Rattle White House Aides

While President George W. Bush travels around the country in a last-ditch effort to sell his Iraq war, White House aides scramble frantically behind the scenes to hide the dark mood of an increasingly angry leader who unleashes obscenity-filled outbursts at anyone who dares disagree with him.
“I’m not meeting again with that goddamned bitch,” Bush screamed at aides who suggested he meet again with Cindy Sheehan, the war-protesting mother whose son died in Iraq. “She can (…) -

WASHINGTON - Toward the end of a steamy summer week in 2003, reporters were peppering the White House with phone calls and e-mails, looking for someone to defend the administration’s claims about weapons of mass destruction in Iraq.
About to emerge as a key critic was Joseph C. Wilson IV, a former diplomat who asserted that the administration had manipulated intelligence to justify the Iraq invasion.
At the White (…)
