AN ILLEGAL GOVERNMENT
8 May 2005 par (Open-Publishing)
4 commentsA recent poll discovered that half of Americans know that the government intentionally lied about Iraq’s weapons of mass destruction. The actual figure is probably a lot higher since there is a large percentage of Americans still willing to let their neighbors’ children die than ever admit they were wrong to support the war in the first place. So, the majority of Americans know the government lied to create a war.
A majority of Americans now know there were no weapons of mass destruction (…) -
Reality check: We’re not making "really good progress" in Iraq
8 May 2005 par (Open-Publishing)
1 commentYou’d never know it by watching network and cable news, but we’re still involved in two wars that are, for all practical purposes, going down the crapper. Thank God "The Runaway Bride" is still planning on exchanging marital vows, because now a few hundred more armchair shrinks are free to gas-bag about her mental state 24/7, thus keeping her at the top of the vaudeville review sometimes called the news. And if the wedding goes bust? Well, we still have Michael Jackson’s circus to entertain (…)

Blood In The Water
8 May 2005 par (Open-Publishing)
by Wayne Besen
"The blood is in the water."
With these Soprano-like words, the right wing’s most fearsome sharks circled Magellan Health Services. Like Microsoft, only a week earlier, the ruthless killing machines quickly devoured the nation’s leading behavioral health company. Magellan was easy prey and surrendered to the savage attack so quickly, the Jaws music barely hit its first note.
Let me explain.
In March, Dr. Warren Throckmorton, who recently produced a video on ex-gays (…) -

5 commentsIn the latest South Florida election mishap, workers in 35 percent of Miami-Dade County’s 749 polling places last November filed counts of voter signatures that differed from the number of ballots cast on the touch-screen voting machines, a new analysis has found.
On Nov. 2, election workers in 260 polling places submitted data to the Miami-Dade Supervisor of Elections office that did not match up with the total number of touch-screen ballots reported by the canvassing board, according to (…) -
How to End the War
6 May 2005 par (Open-Publishing)
4 commentsby Naomi Klein
The central question we need to answer is this: What were the real reasons for the Bush administration’s invasion and occupation of Iraq?
When we identify why we really went to war-not the cover reasons or the rebranded reasons, freedom and democracy, but the real reasons-then we can become more effective anti-war activists.
The most effective and strategic way to stop this occupation and prevent future wars is to deny the people who wage these wars their spoils-to make (…) -

Iraq didn’t use cluster bombs. The U.S. used cluster bombs in every conflict. Iraq didn’t use nuclear weapons. The U.S. used depleted uranium munitions in every comflict.
Nor did Iraq use depleted uranium in its conventional weapons - which can cause long term medical problems, all types of cancer, and kill innocent civilians who come in contact with it. The U.S. used napalm in Vietnam. It may (…)
