Rep. Murtha Speaks Truth To Power By Bill Gallagher June 20, 2006 Detroit - At least the battle lines are drawn and clear. It’s Jack Murtha vs. Karl Rove. They are the front men who represent the moral and political choices the American people will make in the 2006 elections.
Pennsylvania congressman Murtha is an authentic and sincere man who knows the horrors of war firsthand. The former Marine put his own life at risk in Vietnam, where he was wounded and decorated. Murtha is calling (…)

Father’s Day Reflections on a Lost Son
18 June 2006 par (Open-Publishing)
Of all of the holidays a grieving father can be confronted with after the death of his child, Fathers’ Day is for me the most difficult.
My son Nick died in Iraq on May 7, 2004. He is buried next to my father, who had died just a year and a half before. That is not the way it’s supposed to be. I’m supposed to go somewhere between my father and my son. My mother is on the other side of my father, and my mother’s parents are nearby. My proud immigrant grandparents died first, then my parents (…) -

"Do unto others what you would have them do unto you." A lot of people think Jesus said that, because it is so much the sort of thing Jesus liked to say. But it was actually said by Confucius, a Chinese philosopher, five (…) -

1 commentBy Richard Cowan
Congressional Republicans killed a provision in an Iraq war funding bill that would have put the United States on record against the permanent basing of U.S. military facilities in that country, a lawmaker and congressional aides said on Friday.
The $94.5 billion emergency spending bill, which includes $65.8 billion to continue waging wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, is expected to be approved by Congress next week and sent to President George W. Bush for signing into law. (…) -
Israel war crime-denying LIES & SLIES deserve ISRAEL anagrams "e-LIARS’ & "e-SLIAR"
15 June 2006 par (Open-Publishing)
2 commentsWe were all horrified by the recent destruction by Israeli shelling of a Palestinian family by the seaside - but the Goebellsian Israeli psy-ops "spin machine" quickly commenced telling the world otherwise on the Web through e-based "lies" (via e-LIARS) and "slies" (spin-based untruths) (by e-SLIARS). Of course "e-LIARS" and "e-SLIAR" are both ANAGRAMS of "ISRAEL" - and now when referring to human rights-ignoring Israelis (“i.e. LIARS” , “i.e. SLIAR” = anagrams of ISRAELI) and (…)

When Warriors Become Occupiers

4 commentsRapidity is the essence of war. Sun Tzu Wu The stinging pain of 9/11 permitted the convergence of two lethal impulses: 1. the 1997 neoconservative strategy for changing the world, elaborated on in the "Project for the New American Century," and 2. a nationwide appetite for a timely response. Accordingly, 9/11 was used as the clarion call to not only attain "justice" but to reconfigure much of the Islamic arena to make the world safer for democracies, and in the process, (…)

Mass death on the installment plan
14 June 2006 par (Open-Publishing)
3 commentsCongressman Dennis J. Kucinich (D-OH), who has led opposition within the Congress to the war from the beginning, issued the following statement on the war Supplemental funding bill on the House floor Monday evening:
"Mass death on the installment plan. That’s what this supplemental vote to keep our troops in Iraq is all about.
"Today Iraqi civilian casualties number well over 100,000. Iraqi civilian injuries could be over one million, but who is keeping track? Some act as though the (…)
