CIA officer Mary McCarthy was sent packing for allegedly exposing Herr Bush’s practice of kidnapping Arabs and placing them in gulags ............. This malign evil is reminiscent of the behaviour of longtime Bush family friend , the deposed Chilean dictator Augusto Pinochet.......... Officer McCarthy denies that she leaked this material to the Washington Post’s Dana Priest ........... In any event this leak served the greater good and deserves to classified under the rubric of (…)

Remembering Bill Coffin
25 April 2006 par (Open-Publishing)
2 commentsby Bill Moyers
Bill Moyers is president of the Schumann Center for Media and Democracy. The following remarks were delivered by Bill Moyers at the funeral service for William Sloane Coffin on Thursday, April 20, at Riverside Memorial Church in New York City.
There are so many of you out there who should be up here instead of me. You rode with Bill through the Deep South, chasing Jim Crow from long impregnable barriers imposed on freedom. You rose with Bill against the Vietnam War, were (…) -
How to Stop a War
25 April 2006 par (Open-Publishing)
1 commentby Monica Benderman
Three years ago we were spending time together, every moment we could, building the type of relationship we would need to survive the unknown we were about to face.
It was our choice - going to war. Based on the information we had, and knowing that we don’t take our commitments lightly, we knew that we would face this duty to country together - the commitment we had made. Kevin to defend the constitution, the country and all that it represented as a volunteer in the (…) -

Kerry’s Halfhearted Reversal
25 April 2006 par (Open-Publishing)
The search is finally over. Sen. John Kerry is believed to have found his heroic voice. He apparently misplaced it back in the early ’70s after standing up to the U.S. war in Vietnam upon his saluted return from battle. Now many antiwar liberals believe Kerry is dissenting yet again.
"I have come here today to reaffirm that it was right to dissent in 1971 from a war that was wrong. And to affirm that it is both a right and an obligation for Americans today to disagree with a president who (…) -
Fonda and "Sir" Support War Vets Then and Now
24 April 2006 par (Open-Publishing)
by Eugene Hernandez
Any indie filmmaker would love to have an Oscar winning actress hyping their new film; the presence of a celebrity can command serious media attention. This week, actress and activist Jane Fonda has been making the media rounds, from Good Morning America, Larry King Live, and The View, to an appearance at the IFC Center on Monday. While she is also hawking a paperback version of her recent memoir, Fonda has also been talking a bit about David Zeiger’s "Sir! No Sir!", (…) -
Gary Kucinich hopes to join Dennis in Congress"I’m coming to Congress to put an end to this war"
24 April 2006 par (Open-Publishing)
There was a mix of anxiety and anticipation in the Kucinich household Easter morning as the Strongsville family waited for a call from their eldest son.
I was so overjoyed when I heard him. We just love him and miss him so much,’’ Gary Kucinich said, recalling the phone call from his 19-year-old son, Gary Jr., a U.S. Marine stationed in Iraq.
Despite the joy, the call was bittersweet for the elder Kucinich, a Democratic candidate in the 13th Congressional District primary who has made (…) -
Osama calls for war on Orphans and Widows
24 April 2006 par (Open-Publishing)
6 commentsBin Laden has called for a Holy War against black orphans and widows of Darfur Sudan. When he recently made a world wide plea to fight the UN security force who’s main job is to provide food to these starving women and children. Is that a leader of Islam? Is that really a fight against Iperalism. How does that really further his original stated objective. Maybe its the easiest target available. Or he is living there now and needs protection.
There is one God of Abraham, Ishmael, and (…) -
It happened before, not so long ago.

4 commentsIt’s said that during the height of the Cuban Missiles Crisis, when President Kennedy was faced with backing-off or starting World War III, he looked seriously rattled. Understandable for a normal human being you might think. Fortunately for the world it was the Russians who had the sense to defuse the confrontation by turning their ships away. Life went on.
Forty-four years later the world is again faced with the prospect of a US President incumbent (albeit fraudulently elected) (…) -
US Bases in Iraq: Part I: Baghdad
23 April 2006 par (Open-Publishing)
by Sarah Meyer
The deliberate obfuscation of permanent bases in Iraq by the US and UK governments illustrates the myth of "freedom of information." Many of the US bases in Iraq already have, or are now building, facilities which will keep the US government - if not the Iraqi people - happy for the foreseeable future.
US Bases in Iraq will be a researched study of the possible ‘permanent’ bases1 which have been mentioned in various articles over the last three years. All bases had/have US (…)
