A ghost is haunting Mexico: the ghost of the EZLN
2 February 2006 par (Open-Publishing)
By Boris Leonardo Caro, La Zezta
A number of Mexican news agencies have reported the statements of Luis H. Álvarez, the Mexican government’s peace commissioner in Chiapas, regarding the supposed inexistence of the EZLN as a group. Below, an article from La Jornada newspaper:
The EZLN no longer exists as a group, Luis H. Alvarez affirms The peace commissioner for Chiapas, Luis H. Alvarez, asserted that the Zapatista National Liberation Army (EZLN) no longer exists as a group, and said (…) -
Fascism as it was in Italy

5 commentsMy wife was born in Italy, and grew up attending school with Mussolini’s daughter. Members of her family had different opinions about the government, but dissention was tolerated. None of the anti government voices were silenced. Nobody was beaten or kicked with jackboots.
I point this out because of the Cindy Sheehan controversy. My wife assures me that many citizens of Italy during WW II were opposed to losing their sons in war, and speaking out was not considered a crime. IF T-shirts had (…) -

Battle Plans for Iran by Mike Whitney
In less than 24 hours the Bush administration has won impressive victories on both domestic and foreign policy fronts. At home, the far-right Federalist Society alum, Sam Alito, has overcome the feeble resistance from Democratic senators; ensuring his confirmation to the Supreme Court sometime late on Tuesday. Equally astonishing, the administration has coerced both Russia and China into bringing Iran before the United Nations (…) -

Cindy Sheehan went too Far in Comparing Clinton to Bush

Today, someone sent me in an email the following quote made by Cindy Sheehan: ’And about Bill Clinton . . . . You know, I really think he should have been impeached, but not for a blow job. His policies are responsible for killing more Iraqis that George Bush. I don’t understand why to rise to the level of being president of my country one has to be a monster. I used to say that George Bush was defiling the Oval Office, but it’s been held by a long line of monsters" But (…) -
The End of a Political Fiction?

Hamas’s landslide victory in the January 25 elections for the 132-seat Palestinian Legislative Council (PLC) is an unprecedented turning point for politics in both Palestine and the broader Middle East. Arguably for the first time since the establishment of Israel in 1948, an official administrative power in the West Bank and Gaza Strip has strong popular support and is not directly beholden to Israeli or Western interests.
Pre-election polls had consistently forecast a (…) -

WASHINGTON Peace activist Cindy Sheehan was arrested Tuesday in the House gallery after refusing to cover up a T-shirt bearing an anti-war slogan before President Bush’s State of the Union address.
According to a blog post on Michael Moore’s Web site attributed to Sheehan, the T-shirt said, "2,245 Dead. How many more?" — a reference to the number of U.S. troops killed in Iraq.
"She was asked to cover it up. She did not," said Sgt. (…) -

The lengthy speech of G.W.Bush at the SOTU met all of my expectations. I expected Bush to mention 9/11 and was not mistaken. I expected many other words and phrases designed to arouse emotions and was not mistaken. Terrah, Iraq, Stay the Course, God, etc. all were applauded by the sycophant gathering.
I have dissected some of Bush’s speeches and found many phrases to be old friends. Bush promises have previously been promised (…) -

Big Pimp Baby Daddy Addicted to Oil By Dr. June Terpstra G.W. Bush, a man whose family made their fortunes from banks, oil, CIA deceptions and war profiteering had the gall to spin an "addicted to oil" story line in his state of the union speech last night. In yet another Orwellian spin job to distract and manipulate his listeners he introduces the concept of throwing a few scientists at a problem from which he and his have greatly profited. I can picture republican (…)
