WASHINGTON - In a dramatic turnabout, the United States is now on the receiving end of help from around the world as some two dozen countries offer post-hurricane assistance.
Venezuela, a target of frequent criticism by the Bush administration, offered humanitarian aid and fuel. Venezuela’s Citgo Petroleum Corp. pledged a $1 million donation for hurricane aid.
With offers from the four corners of the globe pouring in, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice has decided “no offer that can (…)

Why won’t the National Guard and Homeland Security allow the Red Cross to help in New Orleans?
4 September 2005 par (Open-Publishing)
Hurricane Katrina: Why is the Red Cross not in New Orleans? Access to New Orleans is controlled by the National Guard and local authorities and while we are in constant contact with them, we simply cannot enter New Orleans against their orders. The state Homeland Security Department had requested—and continues to request—that the American Red Cross not come back into New Orleans following the hurricane. Our presence would keep people from evacuating and encourage others to come into the (…)

12 commentsU.S. Senator Mary Landrieu, D-La., issued the following statement this afternoon regarding her call yesterday for President Bush to appoint a cabinet-level official to oversee Hurricane Katrina relief and recovery efforts within 24 hours.
Sen. Landrieu said:
“Yesterday, I was hoping President Bush would come away from his tour of the regional devastation triggered by Hurricane Katrina with a new understanding for the magnitude of the suffering and for the abject failures of the current (…) -
Bush’s Criminal Ignorance: "I don’t think anyone could have anticipated the breach of the levees."

On Good Morning America Bush said:
"I don’t think anyone could have anticipated the breach of the levees."
BUllSHit! The simple truth is that the breach of the levees had been a prime concern as Katrina approached. This statement proves beyond doubt that George W. Bush doesn’t know what the **** is happening. This ignorance is worthy of impeachment.
Sure, I could go on and on for a lengthy article, but I’m not. Have you heard the phrase, "Stop the Presses!"

George Bush arrived last night in the ravaged Gulf coast region amid mounting criticism of his handling of the crisis and a prediction by one senator that the death toll in Louisiana alone could top 10,000 people.
As thousands of people sat on the streets of New Orleans, having spent their fourth day waiting to be rescued, the city fell deeper into chaos, with gangs roaming the city and (…) -
A "floatilla of aid" TURNED BACK from New Orleans...Explain!

19 commentsMy name is Jason Robideaux, I am an attorney from Lafayette Louisiana and have dealt with all of the various law enforcement agencies in Louisiana during the past 18 years. Although I have had a positive relationship with law enforcement personnel throughout the State for many years, I regretfully have a story to share that will shake your head in disbelief about the La. Dept. of Wildlife and Fisheries.

FEMA stops a rescue convoy of 500 boats

This is beyond my comprehension and after spending two frustrating days trying to just get someone to let us help we’ve FINALLY been told we can conduct "renegade" boat rescues via the just concluded press conference that Gov. Blanco just held.
Why is this JUST NOW being allowed? Well let’s start from the very beginning.
On Wednesday morning a group of approximately 1,000 citizens pulling 500 boats left the Acadiana Mall in Lafayette in the early morning and headed to (…) -
Kanye West a Hero: Dares to speak truth to power on Live TV- "Bush doesn’t care about black people."
3 September 2005 par (Open-Publishing)
47 commentsDuring a live Charity Concert on NBC tv, rap star Kanye West abandoned his pre-scripted comments and spoke his truth.
“I hate the way they portray us in the media. You see a black family and they say we are looting, you see a white family and they say they are looking for food. And, you know, its been five days because most of the people ARE black.
And even for me to complain, I would be a hypocrite because I would turn away from the TV because it’s too hard to watch. I’ve even been (…) -

New Orleans: A Disaster Waiting to Happen
3 September 2005 par (Open-Publishing)
by George E. Curry
I am angry. I am angry at the mayor of New Orleans. I am angry at the governor of Louisiana. I am angry at the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). I am angry at the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), now part of the Department of Homeland Security. I am angry at George W. Bush. I am angry because they were warned last November that New Orleans was one of the “Disasters Waiting to Happen” - and did nothing about it. Consequently, hundreds, if not thousands, of (…)
