Rome, August 11 - A 24-year-old Italian aid worker was stabbed to death in Jerusalem on Thursday evening.
Israeli police described the murder of Angelo Frammartino as a politically motivated "act of terrorism" .
Police detained five young Palestinians during the night, but later released them without charge .
Frammartino, a law student from the town of Monterotondo near Rome, was working as a volunteer at a summer camp for Palestinian children run by Italian trade union CGIL .

A Ruse to Save Blair’s Political Ass?
12 August 2006 par (Open-Publishing)
23 commentsWayne Madsen Report August 11, 2006
According to knowledgeable sources in the UK and other countries, the Tony Blair government, under siege by a Labor Party revolt, cleverly cooked up a new "terror" scare to avert the public’s eyes away from Blair’s increasing political woes. British law enforcement; neo-con and intelligence operatives in the United States, Israel, and Britain; and Rupert Murdoch’s global media empire cooked up the terrorist plot, liberally borrowing from the failed (…) -
On August 12, tens of thousands are marching: Stop the War on Lebanon and Palestine!
11 August 2006 par (Open-Publishing)
Even at this last moment, organizers around the country are scrambling to find more buses to bring the thousands of people who are coming to Washington on August 12. The people of Lebanon must see that the people of the United States are standing with them against the brutal and barbaric assault on their country and their families.
The Israeli government has approved a massive ground invasion. Thousands more are likely to die as Bush and the Israeli government pursue the fantasy that they (…) -
Civilian Killings Went Unpunished. Declassified papers show U.S. atrocities went far beyond My Lai

The men of B Company were in a dangerous state of mind. They had lost five men in a firefight the day before. The morning of Feb. 8, 1968, brought unwelcome orders to resume their sweep of the countryside, a green patchwork of rice paddies along Vietnam’s central coast.
They met no resistance as they entered a nondescript settlement in Quang Nam province. So Jamie Henry, a 20-year-old medic, set his rifle down in a hut, unfastened (…) -

1 commentThe biggest demonstration against the war held in Israel until now took place today (5.8.06) in the heart of downtown Tel-Aviv, an area that is considered especially right-wing.
Close to 10 thousand demonstrators from all over the country, among them many Arab citizens, marched from Ben-Zion Boulevard, along King George Street, to Magen David Square. There, at the entrance to the Carmel market, a stage was set up. The thousands that did not find place in the square flowed over into Nahlat (…) -

Several years ago I worked for a company whose manager would routinely say “Life isn’t fair” whenever he cheated an employee out of a raise or benefits. A few years later, while in law school, I listened in stunned silence as an adjunct professor, who also worked as a prosecuting attorney, nonchalantly remarked “Oh well!” after informing my class that a man she believed was innocent had just been found guilty.
These two examples, and (…) -
The Case for Boycotting Israel. Boycott Now!

It is finally time. After years of internal arguments, confusion, and dithering, the time has come for a full-fledged international boycott of Israel. Good cause for a boycott has, of course, been in place for decades, as a raft of initiatives already attests. But Israel’s war crimes are now so shocking, its extremism so clear, the suffering so great, the UN so helpless, and the international community’s need to contain Israel’s behavior so (…) -
Images of protest against Lebanon massacre

These are some signs made for a local Lebanese solidarity event. The original inspiration came from an interview I heard with Tina Naccache from Lebanon, who mentioned that they had made pictures of bombs with US and Israeli flags on them for a protest in Beirut.
It seemed right to the point, and I came up with these - I really wanted to drive home the central point of US complicity for an American audience, which I hope I’ve done passing well.

THE LEFT-wing Italian daily newspaper Il Manifesto is facing a financial crisis that threatens its future. Here, we print their appeal for support.
FOR 35 years, Il Manifesto has represented a unique phenomenon in Italian, and not just Italian, newspaper history.
Without a boss, other than the workers’ cooperative that gets the paper out each day, equal (low) wages for all, and an independent, autonomous political journalism that (…) -
