The claim that common people govern ourselves in a democracy called the United States is a false claim. And the claim that common people can freely and fundamentally criticize our political and economic system and work to build one that is more democratic without reprisal is a lie. Fresia, 1998
Republican representatives and the US president who marketed himself on the need for "change" audaciously said in a statement yesterday that "Today, the Senate passed with strong bipartisan support (…)

Rebooting Resistance
16 December 2010 par (Open-Publishing)
Come, then, those of us who care about ending oppression. Reject the inhumanity of the right wing; the ignorance of the Tea-Party; the ineffectiveness of the left wing; the lies of liberals and libertarians; the greed of imperialists and royalists; and the abuses of religions. Now leave them all behind. A possible better world is long overdue.
Let us not attempt to recreate or reform systems of empire and globalization. This tired planet cannot survive the games that the greedy play. (…) -

9 May 2010 par (Open-Publishing)
CODEPINK Checks Out the Tanks on the National Mall from William Hughes on Vimeo.
Activists from CODEPINK showed up the National Mall in Washington, D.C., on Saturday May 8, 2010. They checked out some tanks which were parked there as part of a “public service” exhibit. The CODEPINK activists, let by Medea Benjamin, brought a message of “peace,” on this windy Mother’s Day. They also sang a ballad with the same hopeful theme. LIBERTARIAN-SOCIALISM: AN IDEA WHOSE TIME HAS COME
24 April 2010 par (Open-Publishing)
4 commentsEver since the passage of the health care reform bill in America, many so-called “tea-partiers” and their supporters have been stoking the fear that this new law has somehow created a “slippery slope” that will culminate in the destruction of the Constitution, and the ascendancy of a “socialist” government.
For those unfamiliar with the terminology, the “slippery slope” argument is analogous to a snowball rolling down a mountainside: the more it rolls the more snow it collects and the (…) -
Labor Fights Back at Goose Island (Book Review)
20 April 2010 par (Open-Publishing)
When I read Kari Lydersen’s first-rate “Revolt on Goose Island,” recently, it took me back to a talk, I’d attended, on May 1, 2008, at the National Labor College in Silver Spring, MD. One of the speakers at the spirited event, an “International Labor Day Celebration,” was Richard L. Trumka, now the head of the AFL-CIO. (1) Thinking back on Trumka’s cogent remarks, it was like he had a crystal ball in describing the ongoing baleful effects of globalization. It was as if he could see down the (…)

Statism Sucks!!!!
6 November 2009 par (Open-Publishing)
For a moral or political principle to be true, it must apply universally to all persons, at all times and places, because all persons have the same biological, mental and social needs. Statism breaks this universality because it starts from the premise that certain people should initiate force in order to suppress the actions of other people.
Most monopolies and cartels exist because of government. Government itself is the biggest monopoly of all, on the most dangerous product there is - (…) -

“I came upon a child of god He was walking along the road And I asked him, where are you going And this he told me I’m going on down to Yasgur’s farm I’m going to join in a rock ’n roll band I’m going to camp out on the land I’m going to try an get my soul free”
How can you describe the fires of Vesuvius or a sunny day in a Roman market square? History leaves us only pale shadows and dirty windows of the past to peek into. Even with celluloid how can it be described? (…)
