A second member of the Royal Navy crew captured in the Gulf has apologised for "trespassing" in Iranian waters, in a broadcast on Iranian television.
The crewman, who introduces himself as Nathan Thomas Summers, says: "I would like to apologise for entering your waters without permission."
A third letter allegedly from LS Turney was released on Friday in which she said she had been "sacrificed" to the policies of the UK and US governments.
It also demanded an end to "oppressive (…)

The "War" That Isn’t

Bush and the Congress call it a war, don’t they?...but in war aren’t we supposed to be fighting a uniformed foe? The only uniforms I see in Iraq are Police and Security Forces, and "most" of the time we don’t fight them, even if they do take the occasional pot shot at us when we’re not looking, and/or spill the beans to various opposition forces about US positions and plans.
Just who ARE we fighting? What are "Insurgents"?, rag-tag, barefooted teens with Kalichnikovs?, angry young (…) -

Maurice Papon’s Cynicism and Death
28 March 2007 par (Open-Publishing)

Dead at the age of 96 years on Saturday [February 10, 2007], the former minister never admitted his role in the imprisonment of 1645 Jews in concentration camps, as he never showed any regret for anything he did.
There are some silences which speak volumes. Yesterday, a day after Maurice Papon’s death, the only two reported political reactions were those from Marie-George Buffet and François Hollande. The old man, who died at Pontault –Combault (Seine-et-Marne) at the (…) -

Four years after the invasion of Iraq
Amit Baruah
The U.S. has all but lost the war in Iraq. Suicide bombings, sniper attacks, car blasts, and the downing of American helicopters have become commonplace. The worst sufferers are the ordinary Iraqis.
ON MARCH 20, 2003, when the United States and its "coalition of the willing" began the bombing of Baghdad, President George W. Bush was supremely confident that his "experiment" in Iraq would produce a West Asian order tailored to American (…)
